I have fitted the Godspeed 308mm front discs with Mintex 1144 pads, which work much better than my old 2 pots, but I now have an annoying brake squeal a low speed. Has anyone got a cure for this ?

I'd love to hear of a cure too, for a temporary fix I do a couple of hard stops, that keeps them quieter for a day or 2.

A friend of mine suggested that the problem is caused by the hollow cavities in the pistons. If you fill these with something the squeal will go away !!! Any thoughts on this one?

Geoff , The squeal is caused by a build up of brake dust , did you get the sticky pads to fit to the back of the pads , they should have been in the mintex box , fit these or some copper slip to the back and sides of the pads making sure the copper slip doesn't come into contact with the pad material , otherwise things will get exciting !!

The Mintex pads can end up squealing if you dont use them hard enough , perhaps you need a milder pad , Let me know haw you get on , Cheers Ian

I had the same problem after fitting the 335mm kit with the Mintex 1144's.
After the pad had worn down a bit I took the pads out cleaned them up and stuck the sticky pads on a "no squeal"

I put the sticky pads on the back when I fitted them. I have subsequently also put on some copper grease. The squeal does not happen all the time. Its only when say in a queue of traffic i.e. a lot of very mild braking.

I also get the squeal sometimes when in traffic or when the brakes are used lightly. (335mm kit with the Mintex 1144 pads) Is there another pad manufacturer/compound that may be more sympathetic to those of us who dont use the brakes much? e.g. Ferodo? Greenstuff etc?

Thumbs up

Put some copper slip on the back of the pad, on the backing plate where the piston pushes against the pad, this will stop the squal temporarily, have to do it regularly on my AP's with Padgid blue pads, but it will stop the manky squaling noises
