Guys,
My MY99 (UK) Turbo is making a noisy squiel (noisy enough to **** me off) from the Front Passenger wheel area - it sounds brake related (i.e. pads nearly gone?) - but doesn't judder under braking (so i guess the discs are ok)..
What are the standard pads for a MY99 ?
How much for a new pair?
Where can I get a new pair?
And How do I install them??
Cheers !
Simon.
P.S. I'm guessing its the pads, if you reckon its something else from the above description post it...

From what I can gather it is a standard problem with scoobs. Mine does it, think it is due to the dusat gathering on the brakes.
Spoke with Subaru about it and they said they would be happy to take the wheels off and clean up the brakes but in a few weeks or so the dust will build up again and they will start to make a noise.
Replace the brakes with something better may do it.
Although I do remember there being a thread on here, someone was taking their car in for the brake noise fault and was going to post the outcome. May be worth searching for.

ok, well the dealer said i needed new pads:
pads : 98.36
labour: 48.00
vat : 25.61
total : 171.97
i'm now a happy bunny (no sqeuil) - but it's left a sting in the wallet.. next time i hear that sound i'll order some mintex pads (cheaper&better) and fit'em myself or get my mate to fit them (car mechanic)... :|
£40+ quid for less than an hours work is pricey...

When the standard pads it worn down a small piece of metal make contact with the disc and make a squiel. This is normal and added by Subaru to tell you that you need new pads.
Ferodo, EBC etc do not have this squiel thing, so if you run none standard pads you need to take a regulary look at you pads and change them before they damage your disc. More expensive than just new pads.

Pad replacement = 15mins includig tea break!!!!
Next time fit them yourself
Mintex are good, but tend to squeel what ever you do to them.
Ferodo seem to be the pad of choice at the momment.
Glad you got rid of the squeak though
Iain.

You'veprobably gathered this already but you have been totally ripped off re the labour for the pads. Cost price is correct (if slightly high) but the rest is a total joke. I thought mine were expensive when fitted at a main dealer and charger £128.
If you can't do it yourself, find another dealer.

next time i will do it myself - and they wouldn't do SIDC discount
and i heard them ranting the engine in the garage a few times as well - they knew it was a brake issue, i said it myself, so i think they are talking the **** ranting it (good reason for having a scoobysport exhaust - if i had twin pipes i probably wouldn't of heard them revving it up ... ), i was in the waiting area i.e. about 40meters aways with about 4 walls inbetween and could hear him taking it up to red line )
