Have decided that 4 pots must be my next upgrade, can't stretch to 6 pots and don't do track so not really necessary.

Have had no luck trying to source a second hand set so considering the above options.

Graham Goode offer 4pots, discs and pads (all new) for £595.00 plus VAT

Godspeed offer 4pots, discs and pads (all new) for £575.00 (not sure if plus or inclusive of Vat) unless I join in the group buy (although not sure I can wait that long)

Which should I go for? With the GG I can upgrade to better discs later on if necessary, Godspeed come with bigger discs but am I then limited to only buying their replacement discs and pads in the future.

Someone help me decide. Want to place an order soon.

Cheers

Chris

Chris , All our prices are total prices with only delivery to add to them , Dont forget that our 308mm fout pot kit has alloy bells , and either grooved or drilled or both so you will not need to upgrade to better discs later on as you pointed out.

If you dont want to be stuck with only one outlet for discs then we can also supply you with Brand new subaru 4 pots , 294mm one piece discs ,grooved drilled or both , and Mintex M1144 or Pagid blue RS4 pads for £595

Hope this helps , Ian

Ian,

Both sound like good options, if I go for your own kit, I take it the discs are also your own brand. I sincerely don't want to cause any offence, I was only slightly concerned that what happens if you're not around come replacement time (although from the rave reviews I've heard from your products - I'm sure this wont happen) Can I put different discs/pads on.

Also what's the turn around time for your own products and the standard subaru 4 pots, was thinking of joining the group buy if there's any places left, just not sure I can wait for everyone else to get their act together and wait for approx 1 month building/delivery time.

Many thanks in advance for all your help.

Forgot to say, how much would it cost to fit either kit and where are you based.

Cheers Chris

Question

Ian,

Read the group buy thread last night. My budget is a little tight just now to upgrade my brakes but I seriously need too, the 2 pots are doing my head in. By upgrading to your 4 pot package with the alloy bells, does this give me Subaru 4 pot calipers ? What comparison can be made from your product against the AP/Brembo kits that are out there ? Also value for money (plz b honest )Thanks

caz1562, the group buy I am organising has a four pot package which are Ian's not subaru 4 pots. If you click the link on the group buy you will be able to see what you are getting or here's the link again http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/.
If you are on a budget AP/brembo are very expensive, I don't know how they compare but I know Ian's kits are very good as all the posts on here will confirm. Hope this helps

Thanks Marc,

I know that the group buy are for Godspeed stuff but was wondering if the calipers in question were in fact the Subaru 4 pot refurbished. Its not really that clear to explain which calipers are included from their website. I wouldn't even consider the AP/Brembo kits ( not THAT interested in track performance on the road ) I will keep this option open for thought and will commit when funds are available. Ta

The calipers we use in our kits are made by Girling , They are a cast steel caliper similar to the original subaru caliper ,

If you want the subaru caliper kit I only have 1 pair of calipers here so they are ready to send out now , if you order one of our kits it's about a 1 week turnaround , as you can choose discs finish , pad choice and caliper colour , we spray them when we get order hence the time it takes to put a kit together , You can guarantee if I put 5 blue pairs and 5 red pairs of calipers made up on the shelf we wont get any orders for those colours !!

Chris , we have been going about 10 years, if we can last this long !! Unless I make enough money to retire with all these group buys !!!!

We charge £95 to fit a kit including Dot 5:1 fluid and we are based in Bridgend , South Wales .

caz1572 - Our brakes can compete well against any size for size kit , I wont get into a 'my kits are better than your kit ' debate but if you want a honest opinion on how they work ask the customers on here who have them fitted .

Hope this helps , Ian

GradeA Subaru had sets of Subaru 4-pots in stock at £350 inc VAT for calipers, pads, discs and mounting hardware, but all used, although I'm not sure HOW used. This was Friday last week

As an owner of a set of Ian's discs I can heartily recommend them.

The most cost effective upgrade is to make sure you get two part discs, ie alloy bells. Yes this ties you into buying replacement rotors from Ian (Godspeed) but he is not a fly by night company.

I also think you are better going for the Godspeed/Girling calipers over the Subaru OE ones. These calipers allow you to have a larger disk (300mm +) under 16" wheels. I also bet that the brake pads are cheaper with this setup?

cheers,
dela

Just to chip in, Ian can you supply your 308mm discs, alloy bells, Mintex pads etc as per your 4 pot kit but have the Subaru 4 pots and not the Girling ones? If so how does this effect the £575 asking price.

Cheers,

Tony.

Thumbs down

Tone - I have asked this of Ian in the past, the short answer is "No". The Godspeed caliper is more streamline, so fits under a 16" wheel with a 308mm disk where the OE Subaru one can't.

Tony - Dela , The subaru calipers will not fit with the 308mm discs because they are designed to be fitted with the 294mm standard sized discs , to fit a bigger disc means the calipers have to come out far enough to fit a bracket in that fits to the calipers and then bolts to the strut , if you go from 294mm to 308mm you only bring out the caliper half this distance , 7:5mm , this is not enough room to fit a bracket in , the next jump using the subaru calipers is the 335mm discs , Or we can supply 294mm discs and bells like Dela has ,

Hope this clears up any confusion - Cheers Ian

Cheers for that,

Ian one more question. I have prodrive superturismo alloys with 5mm spacers (i.e 50mm offset instead of 55mm), i know in the past you said that the 308mm kit will fit behind this wheel but will the 325mm kit fit with the spacers?

Tony, that should work without problems. In effect the spacers are giving you an additional 5mm of spoke to caliper clearance. Shouldn't be any trouble. Good luck.

Tony , If you take a wheel off and turn it upside down , put a straight edge onto the centre of the wheel so it hangs out over the spokes , you will need at least 15mm gap between the spokes and the straight edge you are using to fit our 325mm four pot kit .

Cheers Ian

Cheers,

I'll give that a go Ian. Is you caliper smaller than subaru/AP etc, these need a 7mm spacer? Or can you offset the disc towards the strut a bit to get the clearance? Heard that your now doing logos for the calipers, have you got any pics of these. My brother-in-law put some Godspeed logos on his 325mm kit and it looked superb .

Hi Tony , We offset our discs in towards the strut to give more clearance for the spokes to caliper , measure the inside of the wheel as I have said earlier and you can see if they fit , Cheers Ian

Will do, i have a feeling tho that they need a 7mm spacer from my very crude measurements. I'll give it a go tho, just hate gettin' my hands dirty .

If you're fitting spacers, you'll need longer studs for security/safety.
