Default Brake pad options

Has anyone any recommendations for some high performance, reasonably priced pads at the moment?

Priorities are overall performance rather than the very best braking at track temps at the expense of cold/cool braking. Currently have AP 4 pots on the front with standard rear 2 pots on a Blob WRX runninc c300bhp. I do have a lot of good roads nearby that ended up melting all round Bluestuff NDX's on the OEM 4/2 pots so I'm wary of using them again albeit I do now have the AP's. The current pads are Mintex M1166's on the front and M1155's on the front but they're both on their way out so I'm looking at the alternatives. I like these current pads, but while I can get the 66's for the AP's cheap the rear 55's pads are much more expensive. Additionally, while it doesn't take a huge amount of temperature to get the 66's working well they definitely do lack in the full cold range.

The EBC Orangestuff seem a reasonable price and do have good reviews (albeit they aren't the all singing race pad they're sold as), but are there better options out there for similar money? Less aggression on the discs than the 66's would be nice too but not a deal breaker and I'm not bothered by brake dust in the least. At the end of the day the M1166's are a third of the price of DS2500's so even if they eat discs they're cheap enough that I'm willing to suck that up and keep quiet...

not sure exactly which 4pot AP claiper you have but the ds2500's for this set-up aren't 3x times the price of 1166?? suspect your looking at 6pot pads??

If Performance Friction aka PFC pads are available for your calipers, then look no further. But otherwise DS2500 or 3000 crap over EBC anything.

They are when you have a cheap supply for 1166's at £50 a set for the CP5200 calipers, hence why I'm looking at options like the Orangestuff's which are £75 for the AP's and £85 for the rear end. The 1166's are good, but they aren't perfect when cold and they seem reasonably heavy on disc wear (and also aren't available for the rear of a WRX from what I've found). I don't mind paying more to improve these areas where the 1166 aren't perfect but I don't want to be dropping £200 on a set of PFC pads because, while I know they'll be better, I just can't justify the difference in price for the difference in performance.

Once the supply of 1166's runs out then that's another issue entirely and other pads will suddenly become justifiable...

If you get the Mintex pads that cheap then I think you've answered your own question

IMO - carbone lorraine rc5+ (road/track - embarrassingly squeaky though) or orange stuff (road/the odd track day)
