Default looking for a new scoob!

Hello all,

After the bitter disappointment of having to return my sti type r v5 back to the garage where i got it from (long, long, long nightmare of a story!) and managing to get my money back, i am now on the search (again!) for a nice scoob. Has to be 99 on though with decent mileage and a full history, especially after another 2 door if poss!

So if anyone knows of anything like this, let me know!

Hi Rich,

Yeah more than willing to elaborate as i feel its an issue all WYIOC and Scoobynet and basically anyone buying an imported scoob needs to be made fully aware of.

If you are sitting comfartabkly then i will begin......

I went to view the type r after seeing it advertised on the net and made the 100 mile round trip to go see the car after lenghty questions about the car via the phone. Upon arrival and after inspection and a test drive i made a deal with the garage in question to buy the vehicle from them at trade and i would MOT and register the car as they advised the vehicle was over ten years old i.e no SVA test required and i got a much reduced rate. In the week i had it i spent nearly 6 hours of my own time detailing the car (bodywork, engine bay, interior), brand new set of 18" wheels, fitted a full crystal pack, painted the front air ducts black, paid for a new front lip and mudflaps, paid for all the dints to be professionally removed, welded the exhaust in 2 places and paid for the MOT which it passed after the work i did. With the MOT in hand and all the relevant forms completed i spent 2 hours cueing in the hell hole that is the DVLA office in leeds. Upon finally seeing a member of the dvla staff and presenting my documents to him the first thing he said to me is "Hmmmmmm, you didnt buy the car from there did you?" as he looked at the receipt from the garage i bought it from. After this it got much worse. He then went on to advise me that the date of 1st registration on the Japanese export document had been doctored. When he showed me it, it was clear that it had. The document had been folded perfectly and a number 1 etched out. The date on the japanese document read year 10, month 2 (February 1998) where in fact it should have read year 10, month 12 (DECEMBER 1998) making the car not 10 year old until December of this year and meaning i would have to get the car SVA'd!!!!. The DVLA confiscated the document and advised me this was the 6th doctored export certificate they had received in the last month (from the same garage i might add!!!) and that they were unable to register the car unless i could prove the actual date of registration and that i should inform the police and possibly trading standards. All this basically meant even if i forked out for the SVA test they could still not register the car as they do not know the true date of the car. They suggested i spoke to subaru uk and got a letter of confirming the date of registration, which i did only to be told that the dvla should not be informing people of that as it is untrue and that they can not find out or confirm any registration date of an imported japanese vehicle (euro imports they could however). This basically left me with a car i could not register on the road and basically useless or a very expensive track car!. To be fair to the garage they did offer me a full refund with out no hassle and where true to there word when i returned the car. However i spent hours of my own time and cash on the car, then had to put i back to standard, only to return it with half a tank of fuel and in much better condition than when i bought it plus the expense and time of traveling the 100 mile round trip to take the car back. I am sure buy now some of you may have guessed which garage i bought it from but am not a beliver in nameing names on an open forum, but if any body does want to know then PM me and i will let you know. I am the kinda of person who treats people on face value and not by the rumors or story's i have heard, however they say you learn buy your mistakes, and in this case i truly have!.

So basically to summarize....

ALL BE AWARE WHEN PURCHASING AN IMPORTED VEHICLE AS IMPORTERS ARE ALTERING AND DOCTORING THE DATES ON IMPORTED VEHICLES TO MAKE THEM LOOK OLDER THAN WHAT THEY TRUELY ARE TO AVOID EXPENSIVE SVA TEST. PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF THIS AS I WOULD HATE TO SEE ANYONE ELSE GO THROUGH THE SAME HASSLE AND EXPENSIVE I HAVE.

Rant over now and all sorted thank god, bring on me new scoob please!!! gotta get one before blyton!!!

Would also be intersted in a R34 GTS skyline or EVO 5.

When I came over I mentioned to Zak that I'm in the market for summat newer. Not sure how you'd feel about a standard UK MY00 Turbo (blank canvas to work on ) but let me know if it's of any interest.

Anyways I'll prob be over again soon. See ya later
