WMI CB radios
Evening all. Over the last few months, I have been considering fitting a CB radio kit to my Impreza.
Shaid (white Legacy) has kindly done some research and come up with this all you need kit:
http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/cb_radio_pack-starter.htm
I have spoke to management at thunderpole who are willing to let us have the kits with large magntic aerials for 80 delivered. The large aerials are usually a fiver more.
Whilst I appreciate 80 pounds is a lot of money, these kits will be invaluable during WMI convoys, track days, days out and Tunnel Runs.
Shaid who already as a CB kit installed in his car has kindly agreed to fit all kits we buy for free, which once again will save our club some money.
All we need is a cigarette lighter adapter (no more than 3pounds each) to enable use of he CB aswell as a spare socket for phone chargers/sat navs etc
Please show genuine interest here:

One thing guys... i object to my car being called a Legacy.
It is a Legacy GTB... which is better and faster than a mere Legacy...lol
Anyway now that i've cleared that bit up...
To start with there are a couple of things you need to consider.
1 - Do you want it permanently fixed into the car?
- For me this is fine as i only use my Legacy for show and meet stuff however if its a daily then remember these units aren't face off. You don't want some dumb thief thinking it's some expensive sat nav unit and then attempting to steal it.
- If you do want it permanent do you have a spare din slot?
- Will you be prepared to drill into interior plastics to install a mounting bracket?
2 - The aerial mount
On the thunderpole website there are many types of aerial mount however the one i would recommend is the 7 inch mag mount. I can't think of any other installation points on an Impreza and a small cotton cloth underneath it would be fine. Mine stayed put at over 150mph and round the ring. This does put the cost up by another £5 but its worth it.
For obvious reasons i won't be drilling into anyones interiors but i'm more than happy to stand by and point you in the right direction...
Here's a topic i started when i was looking for CB

I agree with Shaid, mag mounts are the best as you can just pop them off the roof. The one I have from Maplins (thunderpole btw) has a rubber bottom so it doesnt scratch the roof. I did have a cloth underneath but it looks messy and flaps all over the place. It will be good to have CBs on convoy as H (or anyone) can say whether we're popping off to the services or if someone is getting motor issues, we dont leave a man behind ! lol

Shaid, what does the GTB stand for lol
Right guys lets get the ball rolling. I have spoke to Thunderpole (what a geat surname LMAO) who are willing to do us the kit with the mag aerial (usually a fiver more) for 80 delivered ! If we get more than 5 people they may be able to do us a little more discount......
gents can I request that you paypal me the 80 asap as a gift via paypal so I can pay the company......b4dhk@hotmail.co.uk
(obviously if we end up getting them cheaper with 5 or more buyers, I will refund you the discount)
AndyP has mentioned getting one and Im still trying to twist a few more peoples arms

excuse my innocence, but can you use a cb whist driving, or is it classed as a phone, ie you have to stop to use it, most truckers I see, seem to use them on the move.

Take a look at this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3251725.stm
Towards the bottom of the page, I quote:
"Breaker, breaker... what about CB radio?
Curiously perhaps, two-way radio is not covered by the law, so it's not an offence to have a conversation while driving, using a hand-held CB radio microphone. Two-way radios that double up as mobiles will not be allowed, though."
