Oh yeah, one more thing. Call me thick if you like, but why do people put "MY" infront of the year? (eg MY99) I'm a practically a scooby virgin!

MY = Model Year
The reason is so that people can identify which year their model is from because, apparently, there are some difference between models made in different years - could somebody confirm this? I think the registration numbers are different too.

That is true, there are differences between the new shapes MY01 and MY02, i.e. my MY02 doesn't have an obvious aerial (it's in the rear screen) and there's a huge illuminated green doughnut around the ignition.
Of course there are many different changes from earlier models that others will be aware of.

They changed every year - can't go into all the changes now! But you'll see everything from MY93 (first Imprezas in Japan and could have been imported here) to MY02 which are the latest. MY01 onwards is the bug-eye ones, MY97-MY00 (2000) are the previous type (post-facelift), then MY93-96 are the first type. I think that's right
