what you up to this weekend? got my new discs and pads on the car but can't get the old hoses off. Is there a special way of doing this? I don't want to be heavy handed and damage the brake lines.

You must have been ages in the gym or what ever you were up to you missed the miny meet as there were 3 scoobs in a row when I came back from swimming!
Bryan the hoses should come off OK just a banjo union one end and male female the other.Caliper end should come off with a ring spanner but the other end can easily get 'rounded' without a brake pipe spanner. Let me know if you need one or they are quite cheap at halfords (10/11mm) spanner I think.
