Good day all,
I have an 05 WRX wagon and had my windows legally tinted last year. You can have tints from the B pillar back but the front drivers, passengers side windows and the windscreen must meet current regulations or there will be trouble with the old Bill or possible Vosa if they are doing spot checks. My Scoob came from the factory with all round tints - but very light ones.
Here are the latest rules courtesy of the Vosa website. Hope it's of help.
Guess it's get clued up or face getting done by a bored copper!!
How do these blinged out Range Rover Sports get away with total tints that I want to know????

you'll usually find limos are only tinted to the rear of the b pillar.
i had my rears and rear screen tinted a few months ago. i can see the logic in not allowing tints forward of the b pillar, but it's a shame a sensible level of tint can't be allowed either (ie one you can still see out of in all levels of light!). i see cars with tinted front side windows all the time - they're just gettign away with it while they can in my view. most of them, if unaware of the regs, will be suprised when they're informed of their legal status

I have got tints on front windows (light smoke) which I think is 50% light allowed through. According to VOSA that is illegal. Total crap law. I can see perfectly out, you can see in and my car looks better for it
I do wonder how I see so many with dark side windows get away with it, but the difference looking from inside the car compared to from the outside is massive and I am sure they can see perfectly well from the drivers seat. I think the moaning comes from those who can't see the drivers face and so cannot decide what manoeuvre they are about to make and so may choose to pull out in front of them, etc. Those people should learn to drive and assess others speed and road position and use a bit of common.
Rant over.

Sadly Weslad the law is such that our ignorance is no defence....
So to them we are all stupid for not knowing all their petty regulations....
Quiet rant over.... P.S. No tints, so far no bother

Had 4 of my family's cars done since Jan 05 - no bother. Just don't go for anything more than light smoke on the fronts. A mate who put me onto the place I had it done has had his for 5years and had no bother on both his cars. I think light smoke is not likely to get you pulled/checked. Darker maybe.

Thought it was common knowledge about having tints in the front?
Still, we all live and learn.
Have to admit that must have been either a traffic cop or a bored real cop.
