Judging by the lay-bye you were pulled over in, i'd guess a certain well known Subaru tuner was making adjustments to your ECU between mapping runs.
Hope it went well.
I was the one who drove past beeping in a silver Type R, having been parked in the same lay-bye a few weeks ago myself.
