Down at Essex LPG the other night with my LPG Explorer 'tank' .And I spotted a black Wagon having an LPG conversion done . Should save a few bob on petrol costs

i didnt know you could have an LPG conversion done on a turbo car, does it affect the performance?

that's what I thought , but the guy at the garage reckoned it was Ok Originally Posted by ethanrob

From what I've read in the past I think LPG is 100 RON so it might help him Originally Posted by Andy Porter

If a twin turbo Maserati will run well on LPG, there's no reason why a Scooby won't.

It's perfectly feasible for a turbo to run on LPG, or to be technical, Propane UN1978.
There might be a slight loss of power with LPG as the ignition has to be retarded due to the octane rating.
The favoured place for the tank is in the spare wheel well, so it can't move in cornering.
Also, the duty on LPG fuel is supposed to be frozen until 2007...I think!!
I am a fitter working for Calor Gas, so I can get a discount, so I am a fool to myself really in not having the conversion done to my WRX.

My understanding is the opposite - that it has higher octane rating, so you'd want to advance the ignition to help offset the inherent power loss of using LPG.Originally Posted by Cornelius

Cost me £1500 (ish) to have 4 litre V6 converted with the lastest kit Originally Posted by topoff

Are you allowed on ferries/the channel tunnel with an lpg tank?

Do you keep the same size petrol tank?
How many miles (roughly) can you do on the lpg tank?

I kept the petrol tank the same , but the lpg tank replaced the spare (underneath in the case of my Explorer) . The gas tank is 90 litres which means it holds about 70 litres (I think it allows for expansion) But that is quite a big tank and may not fit in a Scooby sized car easily.I can get about 280 miles from a tank of gas , but you can always switch to petrol when ever you want . Fuel economy on LPG is about 10% less than on petrol but at 40p a litre you can live with thatOriginally Posted by FirebirdUK
