Smile Scooby-Wave Monitor

I hope this is not another SIAL.

The Scooby Community should endeavour to get the number of returned waves increased. I, for one, am getting a bit frustrated waving at fellow Subaru drivers only to be blanked.

It seems mostly that it will be the car owner's spouse who gives the vacant stare (looks for cover!), but you still end up feeling a right pillock. Please ensure all drivers of your car are briefed accordingly.

Anyway, how about posting your percentages / ratios of returned salutes? Some brainy Scoobynetter out there will doubtless have a better system of doing his but for now I'll post my own success rate for today :

113 miles driven, 7 Scoobs sighted, 7 Scoobs waved at, 4 waves returned.

Success rate = 57.14%

Hopefully through time we will see percentages increasing.........

K.

I have decided to flash lights as soon as I see one.I dont care anymore if they wave back or Ignore me.I must admit that in my area, usually blonde women drivers ignore me and never return waves. Some men are same( actually, specially the one with X reg blue scoob) but mostly, I do get the waves back
I will keep the culture up whatever!

I agree with the above + grey haired men 50+ I find from my area. Flashing the lights definetly get their attention and gets a better success rate.

Could be? Just picked MY95 up from API today so Iapologise if I didn't give a wave to the 2 scoobs that went past me rather rapidly, I was busy looking at my rev counter ( engine rebuild - 1000 mile running in). 2 Scoobs going rather slower, flashed my lights got a response.

I don't think this thread's going in the direction I intended.

Thanks to those that replied, but the next time I have an idea, wrap my key-board in cellophane.

Sorry mate, coming back to the direction you wanted, the percentage is about 57% in my area.
Too many scoobs, not much culture.

Round where we are in Warwickshire, there's a few lost souls who must just own a car that happens to be a Subaru, because they don't even seem to notice another one coming the other way at all.

I wave every time I can get my hand off the wheel - not always easy is it? But when I'm driving my wifes turbo Forester import NOBODY waves back. So there is selective waving too. Am I a lesser being for having the wrong [ car ] body shape??

David APi Engines / APi Impreza

PS good to know you're looking after the engine properly Adrian. Shame to think we'd have to set the rev counter police on you. LOL

Thumbs down Its enough to make you stop waving altogether!

Waved at loads in the last few months (I would guess on average I see two or three a day), got waves back from Four in all that time! Two of them were people I know LOL.

One sport driver I waved at in traffic give me two fingers.
Then again it could just be the misarible gits where I live.

Default Better than Southport !

North Cheshire yesterday saw four oncoming and one returned my wave - so er 25%. Not sure about the white classic behind me when I overtook the cars in front - didn't like to wave in case he mistook it for a challenge. Still he headed for Chester.

It's roughly 50% on the returned waves for me. Doesn't put me off though, I'll always wave like an idiot if I see another scooby out and about.

I think you should differentiate between reluctant waves and happy waves. I've had a few grudging waves after I've waved at them but no happy ones!

You sure you live in Sheffield and not New Arley near cov?
I always flash my lights when i see a scoob and only a couple of them wave back where i live its mainly sports classics and new ages ones but there are a couple of turbo's and its generally one turbo that always waves and flashes and goes crazy when i see him

Think they are all miserable gits round here ... although to be fair i know some of them dont have internet access ... we dont even have broadband here

Got talking to a sport owner in my street the other day but he was so ignorant and immature i thought why bother!
although this is the same prat who always trys to race me whenever i see him ... think he must think he is good with his useless scoop ... I win everytime

Have to say that in the four years of ownership the wave return is falling - probably less than 50% return now.

Perhaps it's due to some of the chavs who have bought into scoobs now some of the earlier models are cheap enough for them to buy?

Folks one here are into the scooby scene and know the culture so we're probably preaching to the converted. Just persevere with the wave and spread the culture.

Max

I live in devon and only ever get about 10% wave-backs.
since we read this article yesterday my missus sits waiting for a scoob to wave @!
then it's "is that a scoob!" (no it's a nissan)
but generally scoob drivers down here are over 60+ and cant see over the bonnet scoop.

half of the drivers here also dont know they even have a turbo fitted or second gear come to that!

I have not been a scooby owner long but i have the hang of the wave now and i intend to keep your tradition going. ( i too flash my lights to get more response seems to work )

the problem i have now is when im driving my van i tend to flash @ scoobs and they look at me like im a ****!
so if you see a white van flash you it's me!!!!!

Keep up the good work lads.

Ive yet to see a blonde behind the wheel of a scooby, perhaps a pic would help

Seen a brunette sometime back in a classic, so i waved at her only to recieve the famous "BIRD" salute then realised it was my scoob with my missus behind the wheel so i explained the error of her ways later and she said "only cos it was u, if it was a hunk i would have flashed"

Flashed what i wonder :confued:

Just been Camping near Bala Lake, saw loads of Subs. I have Wagon MY03 with Prodrive. Wife has Saloon 260 miles only! (Bitch). Stopped around area where part of Welsh Rally is taking place, 25th Sept I think. Visited Barmouth and saw two mad 555 stickered 04's - sounded well loud.

I'm an old fart with a beard, which probably explains why the wave return rate is about 1 in 10 or less..... I still drive like I'm 17 (12 sometimes) and yes I do have a 2nd gear (and 1.25bar boost....)

My mrs says she hardly ever gets a wave back either

We were thinking of F***ing off to New Zealand (permanently), do they wave there?

We both always wave when we can. Although, I drive the car most of the time (all week and he usually drives it for most of the weekend) he gets a lot more waves returned then I do !?

I must admit that, although I don't see as many women drivers around my way, they hardly ever wave back, but the guys don't seem much better either sometimes.

Saw two scoobs today and neither waved back so 0% today.

Do certain models not wave to others, like blob eyes not waving to classics??

I'm still getting the hang of the wave thing....I can just about manage "I saw a red scoob" but how some people notice different versions of Sti / type Rs or manage to remember reg plates is beyond me!

as a result I wave to all scoobs

I know how you feel - I wave at every Impreza I see round Guildford - in the 12 months I've had mine (blue 99my) only received about 3 waves back out of countless sightings...

Have to say though - it is difficult to wave on occasions

Seem to get some very strange hand signals from other car drivers occasionally

If I see a bright yellow classic round G'ford, I'll be sure to wave and flash... my lights that is
