EMISSION TESTED
#3
Yes I have good eyesight. LOL. I work opposite the layby and saw he had a big tailpipe. My view is that he would have probably had a full de-cat system as the car looked mint.

As far as i recall its not an offence to have no cat on a vehicle
the only requirement is that it must be fitted and working at the time of an MOT
if it fails one second later well its still got a legal ticket//
im surprised no mot testers have given a definitive response on this one yet!!!
i have always benn told both by 50 and mr motman... if a testable item is fitted to a vehicle it must pass/ work at the time of mot...
i believe the only exceptions are... spare tyre and front fogs
but correct me if im wrong
mart
ps were they doing a Db test???
emissions tests are so dodgy roadside... failed lambda sensor etc

AFAIR cars manufactured after errr.... whenever (1992?) have to have emmissions control kit fitted. It's part of the type approval process (I think).
Technically, a de-catted (no cat. at all) car has been rendered un-roadworthy as it no longer complies.
If the car fails the test or if you refuse on the grounds that they'll damage the car, they'll give you a form to present at the local Police station together with a new MOT cert. Effectively you have to get another MOT done and pass it in order to use it on the road again.
In theory they can pursue the illegally modified theme if they check and find no cats because they got a way too high set of emmissions data off the car. I don't think they bother normally because they'd have to examine the car and obtain evidence that you were the person who modified the car.
Vindaloo.
