Cool

Should have posted this yesterday, but a bit busy. Wednesday 31st July - you took off like a startled rabbit when you saw me (red WRX STi wagon) in your mirrors - we stopped and shook hands in a lay-by at Bridgwater. A very satisfying blast! Don't imagine for one minute you're on Scoobynet, but if anyone knows you, please pass the message on!

Unhappy

turboteeth,

I have to admit that it was I, driving like an old woman (better yet, I recall Barry Sheene using the expression 'like a pregnant camel in a thunderstorm').

It's a v2 wagon, so nominally 260PS (I haven't put it on a dyno, so I don't know that it's running to spec, but it feels good for the number, by comparison with my other quick(ish) car.

My main problem was psychological - I'd decided that brake fade was going to be the big problem, because the car is bog standard, and the advice on IWOC was that I needed to get more ventilation to the centres of the wheels. Right when I needed them, I discovered that my local Impreza specialist had gone bust, and I had no time to get anything done anywhere else.

So instead, I drove so slowly I never ran into any sort of fade problem at any point (except brain fade on a chicane, a couple of laps on the trot). That's why I only submitted a bit over a minute of in-car video to snowcrash - the rest just shows me up even worse. Last time I did Castle Combe was six years ago in my M5, and I drove a lot quicker that day. And then this M3 had me doing all the right things, and I kept wondering why didn't I do this at Castle Combe!
