To be honest Adam that's why I would recommend to just buy a CDB and get the machining done by Alyn of ASPerformance for your piston size requirements.SJ.

Semi closed block would do that comfortably all day long the engine that I have now put in my wife's car was running 430 bhp for 5 years without missing a beat so it could still be a option for you.SJ.

Don't get caught up on machining costs- they are not huge and most good engine builders will include that in the work

Adam a SCDB will do you just fine mate,it would of been nice though to use a CDB as you are going to be doing the work yourself thus saving money on labour cost and they are definitely a stronger block but for the power you are looking a forged SCDB will be perfect, when you get up and going it would be nice to follow your progress start a thread up in projects if you have the time
,all the best mate
