do these have ANY play in them as i keep getting so called no play ones and they blatently have as till after one

All turbo's that have plain bearings will have some "side to side" play as the shaft rotates in a film of oil which makes up the difference.

The thing you don't want is excessive end float (axial movement) as this would indicate the thrust bearing may be worn or worse.
