Default X/Y reg Bug-eye WRX Saloon

As stated. I'm looking for a car registered pre-March 2001 to avoid VED band stiffing, so this is an X registered car. A small market, I know.

I have a respectful budget for a moderate miler in top condition.

Current MOT a must. Unmodified (or demodified) versions only.

edit: apologies if this is not the correct forum. I can't seem to post in the for sale section.

My budget is about £6K for what I want. I consider that reasonable judging by what you can get on autotrader.

PLG = Private Light Goods? Eh? But it's a petrol car...

According to the book, a bug-eye WRX is 242g/km which means £400 to tax it next year.

No not mine i have just taxed it at the start of the month and it's a PLG, my dad's audi is a PLG and my mates 99 UK wagon is a PLG infact all of the cars i have ever owned have been taxed as a PLG so there is nothing wrong with that if any thing it's a bonus just means it will be cheaper to tax i was asked if i wanted it to be emissons based when i registered it and they wanted to charge me to have that done but i am glad i didn't now

IMO that sounds like a tax dodge and wouldn't advertise it on a website. The 'spirit' of the banding is there to tempt you away from high CO2 emission cars, not to reclassify them as a goods vehicle, or what would be the point?

It's not something I will be doing anyway, so, I'm out.

It was the DVLA that put my car in this taxation class not me they told me i could have it emissons based but it was at a cost and it would have took longer to get the car on the road, if there was anything wrong with it it would not be taxed as a PLG, i think the DVLA know what they are doing don't you

How can it be a tax dodge if the DVLA check the paper work and issue you with a logbook and tax disc with the taxation class as a PLG????

My thoughts exactly - if it's an import it's classified differently.

Going to get a 2nd opinion on Tax.

In short are you saying taxation does not change if you are pre 01/03/01, has a second set of rules if registered post 01/03/01 and pre 23/03/06 and a third set of rules if registered after 23/03/06?

It's different to info I find elsewhere, for e.g.: VCAcarfueldata.org.uk - Database Search by VED Band

And a host of other sites have no mention of a post 01/03/01 and pre 23/03/06 registration banding.

This is the post you put up before

Sorry but this still sounds underhand to me.

VCAcarfueldata.org.uk - Database Search by VED Band (http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/search/vedSearch.asp)

Observe the statement: "Duty on vehicles first registered on or after 1st March 2001"

Based on a g/km emission of 242 for a Bug-eye, you WILL be paying more than £210 to tax your car next year. These will be the LAWS the DVLA will be adhering to when you apply for a tax disc. What makes the people responding to this thread think you won't?

Explain.

Now in the link you posted up can you see the taxation class PLG??????

No. I know that, hence I changed the post completely as it was not relevant to my issue (thanks for bringing back ). But no information covering PLG, doesn't give you information about where PLG < 2001 is exempt...

I did post this on Pistonheads:

As I knew it the VED banding was as per this: http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/search/vedSearch.... where any car registered after 01/03/01 was subject to the VED bands.

But lately I see this: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicl... where it seems to state 3 distinct groups that 1) any registered before 01/03/01 is exempt, 2) any car registed after 01/03/01 and before 23/03/06 is subject to slightly unfair taxation for dirty cars, 3) any car registered after 23/03/06 is subject to really unfair taxation for dirty cars.

Which is correct? Surely the government site, but hasn’t this changed since the VED banding was 'imposed' as would be reflected by the out-of-date vcacarfueldata site? Have I missed something in the news?

----

And hence is my confusion over this (My other car is PLG but pre 2001, so I learn nothing when I come to tax it).

I see what you're saying re the "band G" piece on that site - "Over 225 – for cars registered on or after 23/03/06"

However, this appears to be until April 2009 ONLY
Which means it's a typical Labour approach - pretend we've listened, then screw them when they've forgotten about it in the following year - it means we'll pay £210 this year and then get walloped with a £415 bill in 2010 if Mr Brown et al get their thieving way.

See here:
Road Tax: What's changing? - Parker's

And quoted from here:
Please note: All cars registered between March 2001 and March 2006 that produce more than 225g/km CO2, will temporarily join Band K in 2009 before moving into Bands L and M in 2010.

And Band K in 2009 pay £300....

BTW PLG vehicles are normally classified as such for either business use or if the vehicle's an import (the latter being a loophole which hasn't as of yet been closed).

Why do you think the taxation class PLG is a loophole? i think up untill all this emissons based s**t came out every car i owend was taxed as a PLG
I think the govement should make things more clear but i don't supose it matters to them they just name a price and we just have to pay it
