As some of you know last year I picked up a near standard (Back box, induction kit, tien springs and tinted windows) low milage (52K) 03 newage STI after I sold my White Type R.
I got the car a bargain price off gumtree from a chap in cardiff. I did all the checks and everything was spot on, I even had his old bill of sale. He only used the car in fine weather and had only covered 10K in the 5 years he had owned it.
In his wisdom he had install a roof scoop and had applied a sticker kit.
So this is what it looked like when I got it home.

I then took it down to James at TI22 to have the stickers removed, the paint buffed up and the scoop removed.

There was some bad news with regards to the roof scoop, the plonker before had stuck it on with araldite, When we removed it it pulled some of the paint off with it, So I need the roof repainting. we also found that one of the rear arches had seen a smart repair. They had obvisouly done this outside as when it was clear coated they went over the stickers on the rear door. No problem when it was stickered up, but take the stickers off and you can feel/faintly see the sticker outline. So one of the rear doors will need a lick of paint. No big issue as apart from that it's in very good condition
First off was to upgrade the brakes, I picked up a set of used powerstation Porsche 6 Pots, these came off of the old white powerstation race car.
I sent these off to godspeed for a refurb, I supplied new Brembo seals and got Ian to change the colour to the Standard Brembo gold as I wanted to keep things OEM looking on this car. I had new AP discs and bell's, Purchased new bolts and brackets and also picked up a new set of Pagid RS29 yellow Pads. I already had a spare set of EBC Yellow stuff rear pads and chucked them on the rear, I swapped the lines for braided hoses and changed the the fluid at the same time.

I picked up a set of 18" Prodrive PWRC wheels in gold 2nd hand fitted new Falken 452 tyres.
At this time I lost my job and was out of work for a while. So I sorn'd the car and left it like that.
Fast forward few months, back in a job and able to push the car on a bit. I picked up a little 1.1 Saxo for £150 which I know use for work. so left the car Sorn'd and carried on ordering bits for it.
On my last car I added a little sound proofing to the floor and boot area and noticed it made a difference on long runs(It kept the drone down to a comfortable level) I decided to go the extra mile on this one. So searched good old ebay and found a product from china, that instead of using a bitumen based product which is heavy, used a rubber/plastic fibre system, a 3rd of the price of dynomat and only weighs 1.5Kg for 40 square foot, Which was enough to do the whole floor and boot area. It makes a massive difference just by tapping the panels, So should do a good job whilst driving.

I had some 40mm accustic foam here so glued this to the underside of the parcelshelf area and behind the plastic boot liners, Didn't take any pictures of that, but again it makes a differnce when taping the panels.
Didn't have enough for the doors so ordered up some Silent Coat door kits for this, These include four sheets of sound deadening, one sheet of 3mm water proof foam and one sheet of 25mm thick water proof accustic foam. Three pack was enough to do all four doors.

Whilst having a clear out at work I came across two packs of 2mm thick bitumen sheets, So I cut these to size, and stuck them inside the doors on the outer door skins,

Then cut and fixed the foam behind where the speakers would go, which should absorb any vibration.

I then cover the inner door panels with the sound deandening. The doors now close with a nice solid thump and have zero rattles.

Whilst doing of this I found how crap the stereo kit is that subaru supply. So binned all of these. I've always had kenwood stuff and always been happy, so stuck with them again.
New 17cm for up front and 13cm for the rear.

Got some MDF rings, sprayed these up and installed the new speakers.
I wanted to change the head unit as it's simply crap. I wanted to stay double din and wanted one that did bluetooth hands free.
So ordered a new Kenwood head unit.

I had a sub and amp on the old car and hated the space it took up, plus wires running everywhere, So decided to go for a kenwood underseat powered sub. What a great bit of kit, Small enough to hide yet packs a nice punch.

I mounted the remote control for in the middle arm rest

I've also resprayed the stereo surround black as this had a couple of scratches, I've mounted a set of 60mm Shadow gen 2 gauges in a ATI pod, I re-wired the adjuster control and mounted these in the arm rest

The gear surround had a few scratches in the metal, so sanded these down with fine sand paper and then wire wool, I also painted the STI lettering as this was kind of lost as it was.

I managed to pick up a bargain on ebay from a subaru dealer in scotland. Brand new in the box a set of Subaru 18" magnesium GTZ wheels.
I'll get the lads at work to swap these over this week.

More updates to come

Never been a fan of graphics, so that was a no brainer.
With regards to the pads, Picked up off ebay for the princely sum of £29, Had them off the guy selling the calipers, already machined ready to fit.
I find they work well but a little on the dusty side

I decided to start with the inside first, get that out of the way, Just want a boot tray and it's done inside. Then outside (Front splitter, paint work, roof vent and oil cooler), engine dress up next(Hoses, new induction kit, strut brace, bolts etc), Tinker with suspension and finally power (Sport cat, bigger turbo, remap etc)
Going to waxoyl the car soon, Have access to everything at work so might as well get it done at cost.

Looks great that dan, fair play youve spent a lot of time and effort in it, cracking find aswell with that low a mileage and relatively local. Look forward to seeing your project progress.

I'm getting old and would prefer to hear the stereo on long journeys on the motorway rather than the constant drone of the exhaust. I've done loud exhaust and would like something a little quieter.
I reckon the total added weight is less than 7kg
Wow hold on a second where's the real dan gone? I see no dust on the dashboard and no tools and cement in the boot what's going on. Love it dan I really like blob eye and as you say with our age need bit of comfort. Text me any cheap deals you see mate you always find the bargains ill call in and see you soon I'm sure you boys at land rover will benefit the from have the best manual handling equipment in the world.
