One reason why I've not been around of late!
Series 2a Air Portable total rebuild
For the Land Rover fans amongst us I thought I'd share a few photos of my Landy Lightweight which I've just finished a nut and bolt restoration on.
It's been off the road around 5 years in total after failing its MOT due to a rotten chassis.
Rebuilt from the ground up over the past 18 months on a new Galv chassis its been hard work and many many hours but finally it's completed
It's no Rolls Royce that's for sure but it's such fun, looking forward to some roof off motoring this summer.
Being a 1971 it's also tax exempt
Hope you enjoy a few photos
It's come a long way.
Well on the way here
Time to enjoy
Thanks go to Simon who helped with a little along the way and the Capt Ian who also acted as military advisor

Well done Kev, that looks as good as new.
I hope we get some good weather over the summer so that you can feel the wind in your hair so to speak.
I look forward to seeing it over the summer at some point.

Very nice Kev. I've always wanted a series 2a/3, but recently the lightweight has been catching my eye. Hope you enjoy some roof down moorings, they're not the quickest things but will be great fun!

Rangy diffs and overdrive will squeak a few more mph out of it
To be fair we came back from collecting it yesterday along the country lanes and I was in the golf and Kev hit 47mph at one point which is damn good going.... He was never far from the speed of the traffic in reality... Ok as soon as the road was 50-60 limit he held everyone up
I was very pleased to be able to offer some help especially with the vast experience Kev's brother has with Landys so to be able to chip in with a couple of items was great

Cheers guys,
It was not easy I vastly underestimated the amount of work but just kept plodding on. I take my hat off to anyone that has restored any vehicle it's very demanding .
Many a winters night I'd think what the hell am I doing lol
Lands are a bit marmite, you either like them or you don't its a real plodder no point in rushing but its great fun and always brings a smile. Performance it does not have but charm and character it has in spades.

Yes overdrive is on the cards along with removal of a couple of leaves from the very hard military springs

Superb job there kev, It looks like a really nice project and I assume a very rewarding one.
I'm having fun tinkering with this scoob, The last one came fully done and I couldn't put my own stamp on it. It's now looking very bare at the moment. As the interior is out being cleaned, dynomated, new ICE and gauges etc. once that's done it's on to the engine department.
Perhaps a little late, But I'm now working in the parts department of the local land rover service center!! shout if you need anything genuine

Thanks Danny, yes very rewarding but in reality not easy, I'm still shaking it down and still finding little odds and sods.
I've not seen this new car as yet how are you finding new age ownership after the R.
Simon did tell me you were working in the Land Rover dealership, that came as a surprise, I'll let you know if I need anything , that could be very handy.

Brilliant work there Kev
We used to drive around in those many moons ago when I lived abroad in the jungles of Borneo...they were the only things that didnt get stuck in the mud but boy the gearbox was a bloody nightmare. Used to sit in the back bouncing around listening to my dad swearing at it

Bloody love this Kev!!! We did a rover v8 conversion on a series 2 with a full nut and bolt rebuild for our apprenticeship project! Took 5 of us every saturday morning for 4 years!!! Then at the end it wasn't ours and the company used the 'projects' to show what the company was capable of... Good fun though! Enjoy it mate, you've worked hard...

It would be at home with up up in them Welsh hills
Yes it's surprising the amount of work that goes into these builds, I'm working through a small list of teething issues but nothing major.
Your right, it's great fun
