Default Spec C, It's Staying - So It's Time For Some Further Improvements

I hinted in an earlier thread that the Spec C might well be going but now it's staying and it'll have some improvements in the engine in terms of power.

The LM400 turbo was sold earlier and so what to replace it with?

Basically it comes down to a choice of either the Scoobyclinic SC46 or the SC50 twin scroll turbo's. Obviously the larger SC50 will trade off some spool for the greater power output but it's not so great a difference as to make a massive difference to it's road manners.

I've basically made my mind up on the SC50 but I'd be interested in other members opinions.

Nearly forgot I'll also be fitting an RCM induction kit, 850cc or greater fuel injectors plus a Perrin intake hose as well.

After all the work, time and cash spent on it Ty, Im glad your keeping it. Im running the SC46 twin scroll. I did think about holding out for the 50, but I felt the 46 would be better for "road use" and the 50 would be better for "*****-waving numbers" down the pub. That said, Im still tempted to try the 50 on my 2.5, but I just want to enjoy the car for a while now. You may want to consider RCM`s uprated fuel pump to assist the 850`s unless you have already uprated the pump. Whichever you go for, Im sure you will love it....

Thanks Cliff, I am known to ***** wave at times.

I think given the minimal spool difference between the SC46 and SC50, I believe to be a little less than 500rpm plus the SC50 reaches full spool at around 4000rpm.

One thing that is on my mind is that a lot of cars using 500bhp capable turbos tend to be either stroker engines or the 2.5 engine, so how would a JDM 2.0 forged engine perform with an SC50 fitted?

I've not seen any results of a setup similar to mine with an SC50 fitted , I know that Daz Davies has had one fitted recently but I have not seen any results unless someone can point me in the right direction.

I already have the uprated RCM fuel pump fitted and have done since my last mapping session with Bob Rawle, I had to abort the previous mapping session with Bob due to the standard Spec C fuel pump failing at the top end of fuel delivery.

The car that was to replace it was a real beast of a P1 with uprated everything possible, and that would have been a very worthy replacement as well.

Glad you decided to keep her Ty, somebody would have been having a near enough perfect car for a bargain really!

Is there much of a difference between the lm series and the sc series in terms of spool and top end power then?

The LM series are not a true twin scroll where as the SC range are which gives them the edge over the LM in both spool and power.
I'm in discussions with Martyn of ET as to which will be best suited but the 50 is looking promising!

Hindsight is a great thing with 20/20 vision, but never mind onwards, upwards and forward to a real beast.

Besides I would be worried about owning a 22B in case it got a mark or damaged, although I am not ruling it out for good.

I don't think there is a massive difference but I dare say between an LM400 and SC50 there will be a difference but it's a trade off between spool and power in the end.

I had planned to send my LM400 off to be converted to an LM450 but given the costs it made more sense to sell the LM400 and change it for a larger twin scroll turbo.

Well if its anything like the lm450 for spool wise you won't be disappointed, I love how mine gets up and takes off, looking forward to seeing one of the sc range on a twin scroll and your the perfect guy for an honest opinion on if its worth the loss of spool vs top end gains, I can't see it being that much laggier in all honesty tho and be interesting to see the spool differences given its a true twin scroll

Well done Ty, glad you seen sence in the end, would have been a shame to get rid of such a good car after all the hard work you put into it getting as you want it.

I know the excitement of getting a new car is hard to resist sometimes, and I think after a while you would have regreted it..

Thanks Lee, I know what you mean about looking forward to a change of car but in the cold light of day after all the money I have spent on the car I would have been foolish to have got shot.

I regretted selling my S202 as soon as I saw it drive away.

It will be interesting to see the comparison and I will have some RR plots as well to see how the SC50 does on a forged JDM 2.0 engine.

I would say the SC50 would be laggy on a 2.0 but the twin scroll should make that back up.

My old type R had the non billet SC46 on a 2.5 which made for mental spool. Next to no lag and what i'll get on mine when I finally get round to modding the engine on mine

It'll be one hell of a thump though, it should be on full boost at around 4000rpm so plenty of revs left to enjoy the power wave.

The SC series certainly is a very cost effective solution for bang for your buck.

So it is going to be an SC50 twin scroll along with following other mods:

850cc injectors in place of the 650cc ones I already have
RCM induction kit with a cold air feed from a Ramair hose moulded into the drivers side fog lamp insert
AP turbo inlet pipe to alleviate any issues with the Samco hose sucking flat higher up the power range
Simtek upgraded to latest Alcatek firmware with 8 maps which will include high power for V Power / V Power with methanol, low power / everyday use, emergency fuel map for 95 RON and a valet or pleb map
Toucan display with sensors for operating the new Alcatek features
Innovate LC-1 wideband controller with display

The car will be having the mapping carried out by Martyn down at Enginetuner on their RR, plus as usual the mapping will be finished off on the road.
