Default Jimbobs gearbox change.

Hopefully this should be done by the weekend, and a LOT less time than my Respray thread.

But after this thread
https://www.scoobynet.com/wales-26/9...d-and-3rd.html
I`ve finally found 2nd gear and managed to get up my drive.

1st will not engage, 2nd will, 3rd does nothing but make noise, 4th is ok, 5th is ok, reverse is ok.

The very best of luck for this,The car looks gorgeous now so it's a shame the mechanical side has let you down.
The weather does'nt look good for the next few days,so keep warm and plenty of cups of tea.
will be watching this for moral support.

Thats nothing to do with me lol, even the pipe goes through the original chimney stack why they couldn`t just put it going up there I don`t know, it did originally come out at head height until we complained. But the cages have been removed now so I have slightly more room.

Right update.

The 48hr delivery has turned into a 4 day affair, having being sent Monday its due Friday.
But as Friday is a bank holiday and the Monday too looks like its going to be delivered Tuesday/Wednesday.

Just hope that there is a half day, or they work this Friday.

Know how you feel. I was hoping for head bolts in the post. Not arriving until Tuesday now, it would have been nice to work on the engine over the bank holiday.

Well I`m gonna make a start and get the old box out, may as well get it ready.
And when the box is out I`ve the rocker gaskets to do, as they leak a bit. And whilst I`m under there see about the manifolds, as I`m unsure if I can fit them in situ as they are Catalunyas old ones so manifolds and up pipe are one piece as they are welded. So fingers crossed they will or it`s a job for later with the engine out.

Atleast the bolts will be easier to come out, as the box will have only been in since March last year.

Then the fun of stripping apart the old box to see whats gone pop, and then even more fun with getting the new box in.

Has anyone got a floor transmission jack I can borrow as I cant be fudging asked to lift it into place on my back lol, push comes to shove I`ll have to, but best off asking.

Looks like a fun job for a Bank Holiday weekend. If I wasn't bloody working I'd offer to come help out, even if it's just making tea and fetching spanners lol. Hope the rest of it goes smoothly.

Well won`t be here till Tuesday/Wednesday, so hopefully it`ll be clear.
And with the box being out, its half a job to do when it goes in. Starting with the bloody fitting and lifting the box.

Have completely drained the gearbox of fluid now, as the box was raised at the front when initially drained. And I`ve my first bit of metal bigger than a spec (but not too much bigger).

And these are whats left after the straining when draining the pan into a oil container.

So gonna have to be a fair few bigger bits and bobs inside, that I`ll look for once I`ve cleaned off my workbench of the 9 tonnes of crap on it.

Lol I know. Whats mad is none of the syncro`s are gone, they are all perfectly fine, just looks like it went into gear, and then sheared every tooth on each of the 2 third gears lol.

Will be able to replace 3rd and its fine again, but VERY strange in how it went. But suppose once one has gone theres a weakness so the rest will go. But I`m hardly pushing big power, I`m not far off standard at 260bhp ish.

Update.
Had a delivery today, well had a phone call to say the lorry couldn`t make it up my road, so I had to go meet him in my jeep. Transferred the box from the lorry and off the trailer into the back of my jeep.

Then as I unpacked it in the jeep there was no map sensor (which I ordered), and then the awful thought "Did they send me the wrong box?", to which I looked over and saw this.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Wrong box, its a UK TY754VN1AA and I ordered and needed TY754VB1AA, so totally wrong ratios to fit to my rear diff.

So quick phone call and my box has already been fitted by someone else due to the mix up packaging and they have the diff for the UK box on the shelf I can have, but I don`t want a UK box
So was called back later with some potentially good news in that they should be having a car in on Wednesday Evening Thursday Morning with the box in it I need. So will know Friday if I have a replacement box, or have to consider a 752 earlier box, or wait around with no gearbox until one comes up.

Things never go well in Jimbob land!!

Easy mix up to make, and they are sorting it so can`t ask for more, other than fitting lol.

But have to check these things, as its easy to miss and mess more things up.
