Default Something to pass the time.

Got a few things on of late and since they involve a particular make of car, I thought I'd post some progress pics on here.

Block was stripped down and deep cleaned. (Parts washer, wire brush in drill, acid cleaner and a pressure washer)

Block is away being de-glazed so i thought i'd restore some parts.

More to come. Lots more

Default More Progress.

Engine was back today from the machine shop all de-glazed and ready for the rebuild.

will carry on with the rebuild on friday.

And if anyone was wondering what the difference between a closed deck and an open deck its here to see.

The clean one is open deck.

Default It's getting there

Well it's going back together, all bearings were plastigauged to check tolerances. bores re-honed and ring gap checked and then rebuilt the bottom end.

the black stuff on the pistons is rebuild paste.

Hope you enjoy my pic updates.

Is this your engine? What would you charge to rebuild a engine to that level?

Parts for this rebuild are £500 alone. Then its just my time there after.

Drive/push in and drive out for £1k all in. Not forgetting that that includes any machining of the block and heads etc.

Lee, the paste is to protect the the most venerable parts on first start up. so bores and rings were covered along with all bearing faces.

Taylor, with the amount I have on I really don't know??

first time i have seen someone use build paste on pistons and rings as i always thought and was shown when training to be a mechanic was you should only use engine oil to cover the pistons/rings and bores as the first few miles of running and bedding in rings is essential to get a good seal and putting build paste on will slow down the bedding in process as it takes awhile for the oil to brake paste down,
this is also why it's always best to also use running in oil for the first 200 to 400 miles,
I'm sure it will be fine but just never seen that done like that before

my machinists told me he did it with all the historic rally engines and bike engines he builds. thought I'd give it a go. I normally just use engine oil. But hay you don't try you'll never learn.
