Question HEADGASKET FIX

Right, going to try and buy some stuff tomorrow. My list is as follows.

1x Gasket set (purchased after skimming)
1x Turbo/Downpipe gasket
1x Oil filter and oil

Total £134.34p + The cost of the skimming.

How does that look? Do i need to take the manifold off aswell? If so add a set of manifold gaskets to the list.
Also the timing belt was done in January so around 8k. New one or not?

Surly you would also need a new headers gasket set aswell as the inlet manifold set

if you buy a gasket kit there should be all you need in there, inlet manifold must be taken off and exhaust manifold too but take belt off and inspect it first, if you have money tho change it but also check belt tensioner and idle pulleys that there is no play and they spin quiet etc..

as pm i will get on the phone for you and get head skim price any thing your stuck on let me know mate

This is looking like a bigger job than i thought. So the inlet manifold has to come off aswell?

If so i cant see the car getting back on the road

yep engine out, everything off and all you're going to be left with is the short block, Heads skimed and then built back up and then put back into the car. To be honest, if you going to do it yourself, you may aswell save up a little and forge the bottom end whilst your at it, as your nearly there anyways.

I know alot of you thought the £600-800 was a lot of money But thats the going rate, When you consider whats involved, I would say thats a fare price.

It looks like something may have turned up. Seen an engine for sale minus turbo/manifold/inlet manifold/injectors for £500. So if i can get the money it's going to be more cost effective that way.

Calv, if you buy that engine you will still need all the gaskets that you need for the head gaskets. Personally I would just do your engine.

Apart from the expensive ones. Wont need the gasket kit as it come as a long engine. Will save about £100 in gaskets. Plus thinking it would be a quicker turn around.

Gasket price now is £42 if i get the engine.

quicker turn around and you could also sell your bottom end to get some cash back and also sell heads after they are skimmed

Now our thinking on my level The bottom end is off TurboDean's car so i know the approx milage. Should be woth £200 and should get £100 for the heads once skimmed. So the new one would cost roughly £200
