Technical options.
Having found out that to repair the headgaskets and skim the heads is going to be between £600-£800 im thinking about bying a set of 2nd hand heads. Which ones would be best to go for? Could i run STI heads on my car? Also which version if so?
Just exploring options for the cheapest fix at the minute

you can also get cometic gaskets for £120 plus or standard head gasket full kit for the whole job for £60 - 80 so the labour charge must be fantistic who ever quoted that
the heads you have are good and can see up to 400 bhp, they are the same castings as the sti just not the same cams or buckets and valves etc..
the only advantage i can see it that the sti heads will rev slightly higher and will not spit a shim out under high rpm
some people run sti cams with the wrx/ uk buckets but not sure if they need to be mapped to suit not sure tho
im sure a mild polish and port of your heads to remove cast marks etc.. will be all you need and this is an easy job as long as its just mild and can be done with a dremil
was that a garage that quoted you that calv ??

i will check just to see if thats still the price they charge as you know what it's like with these places plus it was over a year ago so will give them a ring but positive its around 20 pounds a head, i had heads skimmed with them when i had my 5 turbos too and done a great job
would you like me to give them a polish and knife edge ? not as much as i did mine tho as they took me a week to do lol, i could take casting marks out and polish exhaust ports and also knife edge inlet port remove cast marks and give a smooth but not polished surface as you cant polish inlet as you need it alittle rough to mix air and petrol
let me know either way and it's just a thought
