I've done it again!!!!!!!!
Gearbox No. 2 has departed leaving me stranded 13 miles from home and facing a long walk home.
I am now on the look out for a 6 speed DCCD box and running gear. If anyone knows of one please let me know.
What the hell am I going to be like when I'm not running standerd power.

i agree but are priced silly money at the moment
i have read many times on here that a good ty54 box think depending on model it came from can last along time and handle up to and over 400 bhp
think there are a few on sn running quite high bhp on the ty54 box with no trouble and you can pick them up alot cheaper than a 6 speed
hope you get it sorted fella

Ran a ppg kit in my TY52 housing in my old car with 350 lbft, covered 60,000 miles, many of which where on the track, have no doubt the TY54 casing is stronger, should be the casing is 4.5 kgs heavier, its all about who does the build/engineering, mine was done by Barretts Motorsport, not cheap but then you only get what you pay for.

My car originally had a "52" in it and that went pop shortly after a remap apparently. Now has a "54" in it, fitted by Zen and the general consensus is that the "54" will take more power if driven sympathetically......just like you drive Dyl
So is the box completely shot or have you stripped a gear or broken a bearing? Would it be worth stripping your old and current boxes to see if you could build a one good one from the parts? Just a thought
Keep positive mate, if you need a hand with anything (as in lumping gearboxes around), give me a call and I'll pop over.

The T752 were used up until 98 when the T754 took over using a slightly different design with a stronger casing.
My straight cut PPG is in T752
You're looking at £2k for a 2nd hand PPG/£3k for a new PPG and £2-2.5k for a complete six speed set up with DCCD

Can you get a t54 with my ratios or will I need to put my ratios in it?

Yes, your's will be a T752 casing, Notfub should have had a T754 already being a bugeye
Don't take this the wrong way but your doing something wrong to break two RA gearbox's in such a short space of time. Your car isn't running massive power or torque and should cope with this no problems.
Changing gearbox for newer ones isn't a problem providing you either match your rear diff or replace the rear diff to match the final drive of the new gearbox.
Have a word with David at API, he'll give you plenty of options

I've only blow one. The other was an oil issue in that I used an anti friction additive in a LSD box = ****ed centre diff.
The second one, I didn't know the condition and was suffering from a worn syncro in third when fitted.
Also I like to drive my car as it was intended, if it costs me boxes then so be it. If I was to look after the box then there would be no point in owning a type RA.

You should have given me ring mate when you broke down. As for choices on the new box front i think you should go for a sraight cut dog box. Should suit your driving style

Can I get type ra ratios in straight cut?
Where would I get them for me to rebuild myself.
Seen that gearbox Calvin it's a Prodrive unit. If only I had the money.
I'm strugling to find much because I'm without the Internet. The only net I have is the iPhone and it ain't the best for searching Internet pages without wifi.
