its all a money making ploy and for the goverment/vosa/police etc to beable to point the finger more at the driver in an accident saying

"well he had proper training"

So I need to do 35 hours over 5 years. I was talking to the instructor and he said it doesn't matter what course you take as long as the hours are totted up, I could do the tacho course 5 times and that would count for my periodic training! Whats the point in that.
It's all a money making exercise aimed at easy targets.

your instructor dont know what hes on about then fella it has to be specific training for the type of work you do

ie

if i had 5 drivers doing coach work and 5 drivers doing service bus work they would have to both do the tacho and driver training but then the coach drivers would have to to route planing and a basic geography training that wouldnt be needed by a bus driver

Obviously work specific training on different courses is needed, but theoretically I could do 5 tachograph courses and that would be my 35 hours.

what sort of prices are you guys paying for the day course ?

seen a variation in prices from £65 to over £100

as an owner/driver i agree with above it's all to make money from easy targets yet again,

they should be repairing the pot holes, and the state of our roads are a
disgrace, before preaching health & safety to us,

the amount of taxes we pay,the roads should be like a snooker table ,

it drives you mad

I know the training that LGV/PCV drivers are expected to pay for is a joke, you would think that VOSA would provide it FOC given the road tax/fuel duty you are expected to pay.

As for the state of the roads, the local councils/Welsh Assembly Government/SWTRA (sorry Kevin) should be ashamed and even when damage is proven to vehicles they find a way of not paying out. (I have first hand experience of the WAG in this)

Anyway Geraint did you fit the new type marker board ok and I hope you were happy with the price.

L55REP i know how you feel regarding the tax,im running a volvo fm12 420 ,32Ton,road tax is £1200 a year

we'll do this drivers cpc and then the EU/Government will think of something else to sting us with,
it's hard enough to make a living now.

yes a big thanks to Ty aswell for sorting out my marker board, yet another new reg, collected and fitted, went out of his way to help, top man

The only good thing about this is that I don't have to pay for ir the company does it for me and every other employee is a complete waste of time though, hardest part is staying awake during the course

No problem just glad to save you some money ,after some of the prices that I have seen Hanson operators having to pay, some of the operators have been paying £180+ for the same marker board.

companys like cardiff bus and newport transport get paid by the goverment to take on/learn to drive/pass there test/pass there cpc/etc

then they find silly reasons to sack them. (i had one driver work for me cos NT sacked them for not wearing his tie when he was on his dinner break)

then they employ more and repeat the above,

these companys are flooding the country of migrant workers with no experiance with psv (and im sure there are hgv/lgv companys doing the same) licences so keeping drivers wages down

but hey ho them with money can do what they want cant they
