Its nice and hot, been upto pontypridd and back fairly quickly and started feeling tight and sounding different like a slight miss sort of noise.

Yes mate. As the engine runs and the pistons compress the air/fuel mix, some pressure escapes via the gap in the head gasket into the cooling system, pressurising it and making the pipes hard (as they are under increased pressure).

Bad news tho Rich

Great just done a short trip and the pipes weren't soild but I couldn't squeeze them together fully. I haven't over heated it so I shouldn't need a scim or am I wrong.

Right o.k, suppose it needs to be pressure tested as said further up the thread then go from there.

i think it can be done with out removing the engine but would be easier to remove engine as it's very tight to work like that

much better to remove it IMHO but each to their own ways

that must be well tight to do in the car i would have thought the head bolts would have caught on the chassis rails on the sides

Thanks guysa nd thanks nws for the offer, only just reading your posts. Had a sniffer test done today and he said all was o.k but I got a leaky injector so that may be why it felt different when hot???? And he said not to worry about a small amount of white in the filler cap

Only just read this. Impreza's are known to leave a little bit of white junk in the filler if it's very cold due to the way they breath. Had a tiny bit in mine, which worried me, I confirmed this with the engine builder.

i think mine was partly down to having a metal filler cap which seemed to condinsate moisture and having the engine breathers vented to Air/catch can

Yep, I can relax now and just tighten my injector to stop wasting valuable fuel

use to get small ammounts of "mayo" in the filler cap on my MGF and in my MR2 mate all due to short trips and the engine not warming up fully a blast down the M4 then it was all gone it is a regular prob on some cars that dont get fully warmed up
