Default What is the best indction kit.

What is the best indction kit for a 06. 2.5 STI hawk eye. I'm thinking of a K&N apolo kit. Anyone got one, are they any good.

have you got more than 400bhp mate? if not then you dont need one, but if you must i believe the APS one to be the best, although the car will need a remap after fitting to rescale the maf on the newage cars.

be better of with a new exhaust and remap instead.

You wont need an induction kit until well over 350bhp on your car. The std airbox with a good panel filter is best.

The APS 70mm cold air kit is good but as said would need scaling to suit.

dynamix i thought the standard airbox was good for 400bhp as long as you changed the turbo inlet pipe to stop it collapsing?

after all the litch type25 runs 415 on the standard box

Thanks for the info guys at the moment it's a standard STI. I've no clue as to the power figers. I will be looking for a full exaust system and remap in the summer. Have been looking for a fmic kit as well. I will put a full peter lloyd rallying group n exaust system on.

I did say well over 350bhp

The lichfield type 25 has a feed from the front bumper to the bottom of the airbox (i did that too) and it does help. Just avoid big puddles or snow banks

Forget the front mount fella, waste off money, if i were you a trip to powerstation is looking the most cost effective way of doing it, as i have been looking into this upgrade myself, they do the milltek full system and ecutek remap and quote about 350bhp with similar torque, and looking round this seems to be the most cost effective and well proven upgrade

You should come along to a couple of local meets and see what everyone has done, in the world of modding Wales is going well and you will see what the gang have spent there cash on and have a good feel for what you need to do on yours

be a little warey about fitting one, I fitted a kit to my 2004 STI PPP without mapping and it caused all sorts of problems in the warm weather..in the winter all was fine but when the eweather got warmer it started leaning the mixture out too much giving detonation, engine management lights on and boost being retarded to save the engine..

Some say the throttle response is better, personally I couldn't tell the difference, plus I hated the noise it made......

a panel filter is the way to go. If you go the induction route you need to get some serious cold air to the filter to prevent problems.

If you are going to fit an induction kit then you will not go far wrong with a Roger Clark Motorsport induction kit , I had one fitted on my previous Impreza and it looked the dogs .

If you are sticking with standard internals, with perhaps exhaust upgrade and a remap then I would go for a uprated panel filter such as a TSL Green Hybird or similar as I have fitted to my S202.

Unless you can run a seperate air feed to the filter cone on an induction kit you will get heat soak from the engine bay which will reduce performance rather than improve it, but the induction noise is much better from an induction kit.

I went for a zerosports kit for my hawkeye wrx it looks cool and i love the induction noise, its sucking enuff air for 380/400+, i've just noticed i paid circa £350 for it as for the exaust you wont go far wrong with the revolution system for vfm/performance Subaru Hawkeye Impreza Parts Modifications & Upgrades

Tell me guys.. Is there any real benifit with fiting a panel filter in terms of BHP / Tourque, over the standard box with no other mods, or is it just a good starting point for future modding cheers

p.s sorry if this has already been coverd a million times.

There's a long thread somewhere on scoobynet showing the gains to be had. The std filter was pretty good, some performance filters actually reduced power levels.

Welcome to the forum

As said make a visit to a local meet so you can suss out the various options.
This section has a huge experience in modding so it would be a shame not to use some of it.

Agree forget the FMIC unless going over 450bhp (for which you'll need bigger turbo, injectors and probably a forged engine build), the standard STI cooler can handle up to that.

Personally wouldn't bother with Powerstation, there packages are OK but u pay a premium for the drive in/drive out service IMO, better to source an exhaust that suits your needs, a decent panel filter and get it mapped by someone like Bob Rawle/Andy Forrest/Jolly Green Monster they will get more out of the car than Powerstation.

Agree about Powerstation, they mapped my car And it didn't feel much quicker, even though I had a 20g turbo!! Jolly Green Monster mapped it and managed to squeeze another 30bhp out of it
