Scooby Newbie Hello All
Hello All, I'm new to this site and a couple of good guys Ryan, Mp and kev said I should do this just to say hello properly so I'm sorry if this isn't the most interesting post that you've read today.
My names Gareth, live in lovely South Wales, 29 years old, and drive a "classic" silver 1996 Impreza WRX Import. It's my first Subaru and I've had it since around April 2008. It's a car I've always wanted after watching two of my heroes Colin McRae & Richard Burns driving them to rally success in the nineties. When I finally got my Impreza I started working on it straight away but was disappointed when after only one month of owning the car and on my way back from "Japfest" at Castle Combe the engine suffered a big end failure.
Luckily for me I discovered API Impreza, had the engine fully re-built by them and it's run GREAT eversince (9000miles & counting).
I do as much as I can to my car myself and it's improved loads since I originally got it. Theres to much to list but I will do one day. I've got big plans for it and my list never stops growing (sure a few of you will know what that's like). I love Track days and go on them when I can, mainly at Castle Combe (only because I can see every straight & turn with my eyes closed) but I have been on Silverstone once in a Lotus Elise which was fun. I'm yet to take my Subaru on the track but no doubt I will do one day after all theres not enough room on the roads nowadays to truly unleash it. Anyway hello all and I hope to chat to some of you soon as I'm always happy to talk to like minded people about Subarus and things.

Ryan, I might not be able to go to that meet unfortunately but I was wondering what do you guys get up to there?
I know theres a few Scoobys that I see locally to me and it's always nice that we acknowledge each other even though we are total strangers really.
Thanks for the welcome so far from you all.

Generally its a gathering a people who like to admire other members cars, discuss what to buy next and generally have a laugh.
There's a trackday being organised on the 17th by WRX287, might be worth a popdown and having a nosey at the action. I'm sure there will be afew giving passenger rides to get you more into trackdays in a scoob.

Welcome Gareth
Love Castle Combe myself and have done a few track days there myself in my Mk2 Honda CRX. If you don't use your scoob on track, what is your track weapon of choice?

Thanks so much everyone who's said hello. Got to say that it was really nice of you all to post. Usually the "nubies" get slated by all the more "experienced" guys for no reason other than there new guys (hate that). Thank you really.
To "notfub"; believe me my friend I will be using my Subaru as my weapon of choice around the track one day. I'm not taking it on yet because I really wanted to get it re-mapped for British (Shell V-Power) fuel before I give it a good thrashing. Can't wait though, I just love going round Castle Combe. It used to be one of the fastest circuits in Britain before thay put "the Esses" and "Bobbies" in although it is more interesting now and still very fast!. Can't recommend that circuit enough, beautiful countryside too.

I initially didn't like "the Esses" and "Bobbies" but now I love them. It gives me the opportunity the get the back end moving on my CRX (it has really stiff rear springs & neutral handling). However, what ruins my trousers is the run up to Quarry when the back of the car moves over the rise just before the left right of the fast approaching corner. I'm putting a cage in it now after rebuilding the gearbox, adding a new clutch and flywheel and putting a set of Koni's on it. £££'s

Avon Rise going into Quarry is harrowing sometimes, especially in the wet and especially at high speed. I've seen so so many bad crashes at Quarry over the years and thats not just Track days, that's real race events too.
Sounds like your CRX should be good when it's done though. You can have so much fun on the tracks no matter what you drive. I've taken several of my cars around Combe over the years and I've always had fun whether it was my 1.4 or 2.5 V6.

I`m getting an import & was told it would be ok to use super unleaded or occasionally standard unleaded with octane booster in it,is that right or should it really be re-mapped for uk fuel?
