Default Advice for potential JDM STi buyer

As some of you will know I've had my faithful Bugeye WRX for nearly 4 years now but unfortunately it's nearly time to let her go.

But to stay faithful to the marque, I've decided to drown my sorrows by buying a 2005 JDM STi

I'm still in the 'contemplation' stage at the moment and have already had one slip through my grasp, however I'm 90% sure I'm going to buy the one I've seen advertised (although there is a nicely modded black Type-UK for sale in Swansea that I may go and look at first).

The JDM is quite far away and not knowing this version other than a quick trip in pippyrips old one, can anyone offer me some advice on what to look for when viewing or testing the car? Are there any known issues or problems I need to be aware of, or do you have any other general advice to help me in my decision (and avoid being ripped off by buying a donkey).

Thanks in advance!

As Kev said, service history is key, i wouldn't touch one without it.

They come up in the for sale section on here from time to time. I would wait and buy one via this method. The search function will show you all you need to know about the car (and the owners) history.

Be prepared to pay a bit more this way but it's worth it in the long run.

Something to look out for on a test drive - listen out for a clunking noise coming from the nearside rear suspension when going over bumps etc. The struts have a known issue which causes the strut arm to become loose and knock. Although its not a serious issue it will drive you mad!
