If you want a copy of the maps for this year Julian, let me have your email address, and I'll send them over. Sorted me and spud last year, did (almost) the whole event for free. A bit of walking to get into the stages, but job done.
If you don't want all the hassle of finding the stages in the dark, best place for free would be the ceremonial start outside City Hall in Cardiff on Thursday evening. Think it kicks off about 7ish, but the cars and drivers usually turn up a bit earlier so you can have a chat and see the cars up close.
Be careful of the Saturday and Sunday stages, Epynt is nearly impossible to get into, the only one me and Spuddy didn't get into. I hid in the boot to halve the cost though!
Brechfa and Trawscoed are similar, but with a bit of 'ninja stylee' we managed to get into Trawscoed well before the first stage ran.
Your best bet is either Port Talbot or Rheola on Friday if you fancy a walk. Possibly shakedown via the park and ride bus on Thursday morning (8am till 12), as they didn't check our passes last year, but that may have been luck...
Check your PM too.
cheers.
Jon.
