oil for service
got to get my car serviced in the next few weeks and im not sure what to do.my cars previous owner used mobil1 oil but i think this is rediculously expensive, in my sport i used to use valvoline synthetic oil which i can get for an amazing price(£10 a can).the car is very lightly used and the only engine mods is ppp.so my dilema is do i go with the mobil1 or the valvoline, what would you do?

The choice is yours, Subaru don't use a fully synthetic oil in there services but you get what you pay for. Personally I wouldn't scrimp on either oil or the fuel tht you put in it.
I'd be surprised if the valvoline is fully synthetic for that price, more like a cracked hydrocarbon/modified mineral oil which isn't as good. Mobile 1 doesn't get very good reviews on here!!!!
I use either Motul V300 15-50 or silkolene Pro R 15-50 in mine, The silkolene is slightly cheaper and comes in 5 litre cans. I get mine from west wales lubriquents in carmarthen

It does look ok for the money but it doesn't look like a true ester/pao based oil, if it were, it would avertise the fact it was.
but for £10 a tub you can afford to change the oil more regular

Pretty sure. Its what I used when I did mine. I also used Castrol Syntrax for the diff and 'box.
I bought Motul but the metal cans go rusty and 'orrible in the shed
I thought Mobil 1 was supposed to be a bad idea - mind you, that was during the oil change flame wars

Castrol RS doesn't exist any more, it's now called Castrol Edge Sport and yes it's 10W60. I use it, again because that's what Andy recommends, though having seen the thick sludge that just came out of my engine, I worry that it may be a bit thick for a non-track car (mostly long distance motorway)
Edit: Scoobyclinic used to use Valvolene 5W50, DSA in Aylesbury used an unknown 10W40 and OilMan recommends Silkolene 10W50. I really have no idea what is right!
