205gti I would think best.

I have one and the parts and modifications you can get for these are everywhere.

For £1500 you could by a decent 205 and have plenty cash left to mod with carbs, suspension, roll cage, seats and harnesses and so on.

The Fiesta RS and XR2i had plenty of poke, the turbo is mental!! But handling will need sorting if your putting it on the track, as i found my XR a little twitchy on the limit. Understear is an issue aswell as there is so much power through the front wheels but again a few track mods can help this. All round a pretty capable car , in my opinion anyway.

I used to have a Festa 1.4 Si, used to rag the nuts off of it, Great little car but only 90BHP, I've been looking on ebay as very tempted to get a track car myself, Loads around for £400, Stick a 2lt zetec in it and happy days.
