Do you want to keep your warrenty?
If so you can't really do much performance wise except a PPP.

As Dean has said really... but there are warranty friendly suspension mods as well like pro drive springs, uprated ARB's and drop links etc.

If it's power then PPP is the only warranty friendly engine mod you can do.

Welcome by the way where are you based to as we have regular meets where you can meet the gang and talk through a few things to understand a little more on the car.

Oh yeah forgot the Welcome

As Si has said you can get some excellent suspension products from Whiteline, which will help cure the understeer all impreza's have as standard.
There's also some nice cosmetic changes that can be made, Scott Lowe front splitters are popular on Newage cars, different wheels maybe (assuming you have the standard 17's, not the optional 18's)

I'm not familiar with a buddy box but I see what your saying, but that would kill the warranty I presume.

One thing I will say though is just to be a little carefull of what you say on the forums as quite a few dealers etc do read so they have an idea of what people get up to one for monthly meet discussion

I'd personally be tempted to have a good talk with your dealer to see what areas they are happy for you to look into, I know when I had my bugeye sport I had Eibach springs fitted and powerstation alignment settings done and there was no problems with that at all.

Have a look at these sites for some good general info....

These guys are the suspension gurus in the area, as Dean said you can draw the understeer right back and also help with tyre wear drastically.
great suspension pakages available as well.. we have 5 local guys as far as I remember running the Type 25 set up

PowerStation

Then have a read through these for engine managment info....

Heres the American one but they mod new cars heavily were we as yet don't

NASIOC - Powered by vBulletin

That should keep you busy for a few minutes

To quote Mr Big Brakes.... get the suspension and handling sorted first as you can then actually drive the car to more of it's capabilites without putting more power under the bonnet.

first - just change the backbox and air filter to release some of the scooby burble. both will not affect the warranty and can be done reasonably cheaply and will also up the power a bit

Thats what i did to mine and got to 313 bhp (with the centre resonator removed too)

I fitted:

Green Air Filter
TSL Group N Back Box (2.5 inch section)
TSL De-resonated Centre Section (2.5 inch section)

both were made aware of to the subaru dealer and neither were a problem fro warranty, although they would obviously not warranty the exhaust..

results:
314 bhp at 5913 rpm
309.5 lb/ft at 4303 rpm

at dyno run in march this year
