Speed Camera Heads-up
Apologies if this is old news, but a good mate of mine told me last night, that the camera van which was regularly on the bridge near Junction 35 (Pencoed) by St Mary's Golf Club has been changed recently.
Apparently they are now using a tripod camera system on the bridge, and parking the van out of the way so its not so obvious. Presumably as every bugger (including me) slowed down until they saw whether the van was there, and then sped up if it wasn't.
So I have not seen this yet myself, but have a look out just in case.

I've seen the tripod system set up westbound at 35 - two cameras, one each over lanes 2 and 3, the van is then tucked off to the left.
They are still fairly easy to spot as those who know the section should have already slowed down and be looking out for the van - in which case you should spot the tripods - AND they were pointing westbound themselves, ie filming the rear reg plate after you have passed under the bridge.
I thought they were ANPR cameras / tax cameras - didn't look like a speed trap - especially as at the time Prince Charles was in the area. I suspect they use ANPR when VIPs are around as apart of the VIP Protection setup.
I'm always on that section - I'll keep my eyes open - as usual
Gareth

Speed cameras M4 corridor
Just to add to the agony, I was told today by one of the cheif stewards of an up comming national rally (wonder what that might be) that there are 40 camera vans deployed this weekend down the 'M4 corridor' wherever that is..
Might be worth keeping an eye out for them then...
Cheers Paul

You should also be aware that for the last year at least the camera van (quite rightly pointed out already that it's sometimes replaced with a man/tripod now) is on the bridge at J35 (Bridgend).
Recently he's started parking about 3 bridges EAST on the M4 of his usual spot at J35.
Also, a few people at work have started talking about camera vans being spotted out at night, not something you normally see. On Tuesday this week I drove home in the dark through Corntown (nr. Bridgend) and low and behold, a camera van parked on the side of the road. I slowed down to peer through the back window and notices a red reflection, similar to the lense on a Truvelo camera, ie. infrared.
Camera vans that can clock you at night!!??!! Could be....

get it tested then mate, i had mine tested the other week and its still working fine, make sure the sensor is still in the right place on the car, if its moved slightly it won't jam properly.
