I've just emailed the Petrol Buyer in work(Tesco) and he's come back to me with this...
Phillip,
We have just put 99 Octane into the Cardiff Extra Store and will be converting Culverhouse Cross, Penarth and the two Newport stores over the course of the next month.
It will aslo be put into stores in Bristol and immediate surrounding areas during June.
It is available in most stores in the south east & north west England.
Regards,
How's that .......

'Western Avenue' is near Gabalfa but that isn't the address of the Tesco there, it's 'Excelsior Road'.
'Western Road' Tesco is near Penarth (big red dot marks the spot) ....

is the 99 tesco anygood on the scoobies?
there was a reveiw in banzai - in march issue, about all the petrol's supplied in the uk. optimax still came out on top...
i think a cosworth engine was put on a dyno using different fuel types and the difference in power output between tesco 99 and optimax was 16bhp increase using optimax rather then tesco 99.
be nice to see some dyno results on the scooby using both fuel types!!

Apparantly you can run more ignition advance with tesco 99 ron than optimax, so if mapped for it you should get more power. If the car is mapped for optimax and you use tesco's than there is supposed to be less chance of knock, but possibly less power.
This is only what i have read on here, but this seems to be the opinion of most people that have mapped cars for both optimax and 99ron.

I was down at tesco in newport in the week and their SUL was 97 ron not 99 and at the cheap price of 95.9,which bugs me cos their UL was 91 but the nearest tesco to me charge 96.

Well, just filled up with 99 from Cardiff, we'll see how she performs, perhaps another tank full first so the ignition can advance up before it starts knocking back to default. The major effect will be boost on our cars. Should I say that it will be interesting once we've all tried a couple of tank fulls. The problem with rolling road tests that unless ambient air temperature is consistant and fuel quality is good, its difficult to tell. The open road is a good measure.

I spend too long in the Tredegar BP and I am sure Tescos 97 would be cheaper (they will never put 99 up there!)
