Exclamation Petrol smell

Afternoon all

Last day or so ive been getting a light smell of petrol in the car. Spoke to the guys at ace motorsport and they said that all imprezas do this when warm and just starting up or just come off a run and a pootling round.

I was wondering if this is right and it happens to others or is it the start of a problem that others may have experience with.

The car is going to KP subaru tomorrow as well but was hoing you guys could help

Cheers

Ian

I get an oiley smell every now and again due to the engine breathing through the intercooler, which means you get oil vaper going through the intercooler, this is then vented to the engine bay through the dump valve. If you have the heater on you sometimes get a slight oiley smell in the cabin.

Only smelt petrol when reversing slow and driving through my own exhaust emmissions

Shouldn't get any petrol smells.
I had a similar issue a few years back with a new car and it drove me mad for a while until we tracked it down. Have you had a performance pack fitted by any chance ? My problem wasa tiny kink in the gasket when they fitted he new fuel pump. New gasket equalled no petrol smell:-)

Yeah pretty good. I've bought decat up and down pipes that are at home at the moment, ready to go on. I'm going to go up to Powerstation and get them to fit them, followed by a tweak of the maps - should take me up to 280/270 hopefully.

I'm going to be off the road for a few weeks and am off to Crete on holiday in July so I'll probably get it all done when I get back from there.

Well looks like petrol smell is coming from an area around the rear drivers side wing, that would explain why i cant smell it on the move and only when car is idling stationary, bet its a leaking petrol tank lol

As for noises zippy, the cabin noise is a bit excessive but it seems to be more than road noise. It could be that the continental premium contacts on there are a noisy tire but i want subaru to check it out just in case its something more that i need to claim on the warrenty.

Cheers

It may pay you to remove the rear seat and have a check under there, simple just undo the 2 bolts that are visible from the foot well the lower part of the seat will simply lift out then.

Have the other bolts arrived yet ?

Ive got half day in work simon so ill Check my post once i get home, ill check under the seat as youve mentioned.

will put the wheels on and see if there is any change on the Road noise also, Even if it looks like a range rover that high

Just spoke to powerstation too and quoted bout £470 Inc Vat for a set of Eibach Springs, Fitting of springs the bump steer mod and the 4 wheel alignment

Are these the springs to go for or shall i go the H&R springs with a slightly lower drop which i reckon would look better. Where can i source the H and r prings

Cheers

Panic averted

Just got back from KP Subaru And they gave the car clean bill of health, the petrol smell was from a dodgy seal between the petrol cap and tank and the droning noise is from the rubbish continental tyres, not from the drive or wheel bearings and didnt have to pay nowt for the check, Bargain

Cheers

Go for the prodrive springs for the extra £££. My Eibach springs knock like hell althought the performance is excellent. If you have not had the whiteline RARB and drop links fitted do these first\aswell.

Gazz.

What are white line RARB and droplinks?

How much do these usually cost?

Should i get strut braces before or after the set up?

cheers

Rear anti roll bar and droplinks are what you can see either side of under car behind axle. Go for geometry first!!!
