Loud knocking noise coming from the engine. Not mine, but my mates. It doesnt knock when idle, only once the car goes above 2500rpm..... Anyone out there with any ideas as to what it could be ?

Any oil in the engine mate? Could be a broken lifter or something through oil starvation

the car has recently been serviced. Before that it was fine.
Apparently its the float on the crank ? or something like that.
How bad is this ?

Could be the big end if the car was recently serviced as this happend to a friend fo mine and a lot of other scooby owners !

spoke to Keith Price garages yesterday. Engine is coming out this week for further investigation.
If it is the big end, whats the cure ? new lump ? rebuild ?

How old is the car and is it under warranty ?
As you will need a new engine more or less cost is £2500 notes I think so if its an older one trade it into another garage I would unless its under warranty.

Yeah the car is under warranty, until june next year. Have been told its an engine out jobby. Just need to assess the full extent of the damage

Your sorted then mate I wouldn't worry about it, just make sure it confirmed with the dealers though.

The dealership have been sound so far. They acknowledged the car was still under warranty from the start. Subaru assistance delivered the car for me. I just have to go to pick it up when its all sorted. Just means im not gonna be able to go to the Rally next week :-(
