On my way to work on the M4 between J30&J31, Camera Van on the bridge picking up the traffic travelling west.
Guess what, big shunt directly underneath involving several cars !!
Someone slowed down and a load piled into the back of him, causing massive tailback.
...and these things are supposed to make our roads safer !!

I saw the same result earlier today, except only two vehicles involved and they'd already passed under the bridge. I don't expect the camera operative(s) rushed to help did they?

Come on guys, if the car in front of me slows down for any reason, speed camera, animal, another car, etc, and I run into the back of it then it is due to either brake failure, drving too close or not concentrating. So there are two reasons, mechnical failure or bad driving, speed camera has nothing to do with it.

If you are refering to me, sorry I am not a policeman, just someone who knows how to drive and fed up with people who do not and then blame others, usually the police.

Now the arguement with speed cameras is a different thing. I was commenting on the piles "caused" by speed cameras, which are obviously down to bad driving. The use of speed cameras is a different issue. Are they meant to prevent accidents, catch people breaking the speed limit, or provide additional revenue to the police. I agree, if they are used just for addtional income, or even tjust to catch people speeding, then I disagree with them. If they are being used to prevent accidents due to speeding then in most cases they seem to be used inappropriately.

Mobile speed cameras are a physical distraction to anyone driving, therefore always a chance of an accident.
As soon as you see one you always hit the brakes before you check your speed.
I sure I would get warned for distraction if I parked a white van on the side of the road and started to video people with a camcorder.

LOL Richardmis not you again causing trouble!
lmfao, who cares most police stink (occasional few who are tidy & is it me or are the women police officers are getting minter ) and basically need to uhm go find some thieves or "proper criminals" who are actually doing some real crime, not waste our tax money and time by buying speed cameras and the like. Just my opinion of course, doesn't mean its gospel!

I would say the drivers involved in those pile up's were not necessarily bad drivers, they are probably your average driver!! Sitting in their comfort zone, probably not looking too far ahead, half decent weather, moderate traffic, why should anybody brake in front of them for no reason? We all know what causes that momentary panic. Whatever anybody says, camera vans, where ever they are parked, are a significant distraction and will cause accidents. The conclusion, on major roadways like motorways they are there for one reason, making money!!
