Default Need advice, possible gearbox issue????

Hi all,

I have recently noticed a strange cog like sound mainly when cornering at low speeds. When i depress the clutch the sound stops. It may continue at normal speeds but the car is too loud and the sound too quiet to notice, the sound is only noticable when passing objects so the sound can bounce back so it isn't loud at the moment.

I have checked the gear oil level and it is spot on and a pristine colour. I have no issues selecting all forward gears and reverse can be a little stubborn at times, although it has been like that for years.

The big question is, am I looking at gearbox issues or is it something less dramatic like the clutch or thrust bearing maybe or even a wheel bearing???? I am out of my depth in this area of the car so any advice would be welcome. The car has only covered 75k and doesn't get ragged through the gears.

Cheers all,
Ian

Thanks to Ian (Trooper) for the advice so far, he put my mind at rest a little as it sounds like a possible thrust bearing.

However, there has been a development today, the sound can now be heard even when the clutch is depressed so can this still possibly be a thrust bearing or does this rule that out?

I know I need to get the car to 3 arches to have a proper inspection but in the mean time any more advice would be gratefully received.
