Information:
Toucan is an innovative touchscreen display unit that connects, via CAN bus, to the Syvecs or AlcaTek (originally Simtek) engine management system.
It has 2 main functions:

Easy naming and selection of Calibrations (or maps), in place of the standard rotary switch.

Extensive gauge displays, complete with audible and visible alarms, as well as absolute and dynamic peak markers.

Each CAL position is provided with 3 lines of user-entered text, minimising the risk of selecting the wrong map. PIN protection can be enabled, so the vehicle may be parked with an immobiliser CAL enabled (with no fuel injected, for example) or a valet mode (with low rpm limits), with a PIN entry required before the CAL can be changed.

Gauges have a absolute peak marker (with reset button), plus a dynamic peak marker that holds the most recent peak for a configurable period of time before dropping back to the current value. A dynamic minimum marker is also available on many gauges, to show the lowest recent value.
Four main gauge pages are provided, and each page can by configured to show your preferred gauge selections. A quick touch on any small gauge causes a full-screen gauge to be displayed and the unit can also be set to immediately show the relevant large gauge when an alarm is triggered.
Alarms can be individually enabled for each parameter, with the alarm thresholds set as required. A low oil temperature warning can be enabled, especially important for turbocharged engines to avoid driving hard when the oil’s too cold. The audible alarm may be muted if wished.

When used with an AlcaTek ecu, launch control and antilag can be turned on and off directly from the touchscreen, and the launch RPM may also be adjusted from the screen. For Syvecs the ALS and LC status is displayed.
The display is a full-colour TFT LCD with 320×240 pixels and a resistive touchscreen. Backlight dimming for night time use can be manually selected, and/or automatically enabled if the unit is wired to the vehicles “illumination” circuit.

Two (or more) units can be daisy-chained together allowing different gauges to be displayed simultaneously, and since each will remember its current display at power-down, the displays will be as you want them next time you start the vehicle.

Green, red and white colour schemes are provided to suit most vehicle dashboards.

Gauges and Alarms
Gauge scales can be display in either imperial, metric units or “USA” units, with road speed in mph or kph. Alarms can be enabled individually as required for each parameter.

Of course, gauges will only show valid data when appropriate sensors are wired to the ECU but gauges 1 through 9 below are generally available for most installations. Only full screen gauges for available sensors need be enabled, meaning “dead” gauges are not displayed.

1. Boost 2.5bar or 3.5bar
2. Air Charge Temperature 10-70C/50-150F
3. Coolant Temperature 60-120C/80-280F

13. Oil Pressure 0-10bar/0-150psi
14. Oil Temperature 50-150C/110-290F
15. Fuel composition (alcohol content) 0-100%
16. Fuel Level 0-100%

Additionally, warnings are provided when engine knock is detected by the ecu, if injector duty cycle exceeds a selectable value, or if a sensor connected to the ecu fails. Sensor failures are displayed, and a unique “lean lambda” alarm can be set to warn of lean running when on boost.
New alarms and gauges are added through regular updates.
Wiring and Installation

Toucan is intended for permanent or semi-permanent installation. It uses the Herbert Richter™ 4-prong mounting system and is supplied as standard with a permanent-fixing swivel mount. Vent clip, or adhesive/screw on swivel mounts are available as options.

A single latching connector on the rear of the unit attaches to the supplied cable harness, allowing occasional removal of the unit if required. The harness provides connections to vehicle power, the ecu itself, and (for Syvecs) the CAL switch wiring.

Its a typo in the title..... this beasty does no datalogging itslef, it has gauge/alarm/cal setting functions for syvecs but the datalogging is done within the ecu and viewed externally on a computer.

i have a Toucan in my car though and its a really good little device! So much neater than a ruck of gagues across the dash and has customisable alarms and layout so you never miss any issue.

Does this come with the sensors etc you need for it? OR is this one of those things like the Defi gauges where they rip you off individually for the wiring and sensors?

Edit or does this do it from the ECU sensors?

Does the ECU even have half of those sensors?

Syvecs and Alcatec are pretty high end bits of kit, they have as many sensors calibrated into them as you want to setup (pretty much).

This isnt something that you could setup to run independantly of a syvecs or alcatec ecu.

I have an Alkatek, but am pretty sure it doesnt have half of these sensors, or will it use the OEM oil press + temp sensor, and the oem lamba sensor?

TPS OEM? Speed OEM? Etc etc etc

TPS and speed are OEM.

Oil pressure and temp youll have to add (youll only have an oil pressure switch as standard.

OEM lambda isnt wide band, so youll be needing that too.

To be honest, these are all things that are either good to keep an eye on, or generally good news for robusting your map.

1. Boost 2.5bar or 3.5bar .................................................O E

2. Air Charge Temperature 10-70C/50-150F ......................... Not OE but very handy if running mafless

3. Coolant Temperature 60-120C/80-280F ............................ OE

4. Battery Volts 11-17V .................................................. .. within the Toucan unit i believe.

5. Current Gear As determined by the ecu ....... determined from speed and revs

6. RPM 0-10,000rpm .............................................. OE

7. Wheel Speed 0-200 mph/0-300kph ...........................OE

8. Throttle Position 0-100% ........................................OE

9. Fuel Pressure (with selectable differential mode) 0-10 bar ...... Not OE, but very handy to show fuel starvation/duff pumps or filters etc.

10. Fuel Temperature 0-70C/50-150F .....................................Not OE, but very handy if your suffering from pump cavitation from unwrapped fuel lines or an engine bay swirl pot getting heat soak etc.

11. Exhaust Gas Temperature (x2) 200-1200C/300-2300F .......... not OE

12. Lambda (x2) .................................................. ............... wideband not OE, but very good for your mapper.

Narrowband mode (Lean/Rich indication) ................................. OE

Wideband (0.7-1.3λ)

13. Oil Pressure 0-10bar/0-150psi ............. not OE, OE is just a low pressure switch.

14. Oil Temperature 50-150C/110-290F ...... not OE, but very handy.

15. Fuel composition (alcohol content) 0-100% ............ not OE

16. Fuel Level 0-100% ...............................................OE

Just to chip in...logging for AlcaTek is in the pipeline, albeit a few months away There'll be a functionality update in a few weeks which will add:

- flex fuel sensor gauge for Syvecs
- CANbus control of CAL, CAL override and ALS on/off for Syvecs
- screen off mode; useful for rally cars or other occasions where the display is a distraction
- ability to use custom defined Syvecs CAN datastream definitions - needed when the CAN bus is used for other, potentially conflicting, devices on the bus.
- AFR text display on the lambda gauge
- ability to return to the last-selected large gauge rather than having to step through the large gauges again
- 12,000rpm gauge (for 'bikes - not much use for Scoobs lol)
- PIN protection for first CAL and/or last, rather than just last CAL.
- increased power-off timeout, so display remains on during cranking (which can cause switched power to be removed for a while)
- an additional "list" display of ECU parameters. No fancy gauges, just a list.
- Knock ignition retard values displayed on knock alarm screen
- injector duty displayed on injector duty alarm screen
- a few built-in help pages

Probably a few more bells and whistles I've forgotten about.

Oh, and also support for MoTeC ECUs. Gems (Evo X and "SimTek2") to follow soon.

This product does not stand still, guys
