Is the Gulf oil similar quality to the silkolene I've used before, ie Ester based? Also on the spec sheet it says not to be used in cars still under warranty, why is that? Is it ok for a daily driver scoob?
Thanks

Yep, its on a par so is a bargain.

All the warranty stuff is marketing, makes it sound more like a race oil.

What would you recommend for an 02 bug wrx but modified running 414bhp. Need to know any more? Itsd been off the road for a while and i used to use shell helix ultra 5w 40 but went to get some today and its nearly £50 for 5 ltrs?

Also i dont understand the ratings so wouldnt have a clue what is best?

and is it best to use different oils for track days to daily use??

Hi

That's pretty steep for the Shell, it's £31 from us. It's not a bad oil, but in a 400+bhp car, I'd look at using a top end oil. A 10w-50 may be better than a 5w-40 in your car, but it depends on the oil temps. A 5w-40 would be best, unless you are getting high (over 125C) oil temps, then a 10w-50 is the best choice.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-659-10w-50.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition.

Cheers

Tim

Cheers for that Tim, ill whack the shell stuff in whilst the car is off the road and it will only be ticking over then drop the oil once its ready to go back on the road, and i got all my gauges plummed in to see what temps i am getting. Will be in touch in the future matey.

Shell helix ultra 5w 40 cost me £46.50 yesterday, i was devastated too.....! The shell by me is classed as a service station for the local bypass so i think they use that as an excuse to charge to inflate all prices!!

Service stations can make it easy for us, my local Shell had Helix Ultra on a special offer, £20 per litre but if you buy one the second was half price. £30 for 2L from them, £31.50 for 5L from us.

10w-50 is ideal

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-659-10w-50.aspx

Both are really good oils, absolute top of the range ones, so go with any brand preference you have.
