As a very general rule of thumb, go 1 stage cooler than stock for every 50-100bhp increase. It requires some research though, no 2 engines are the same and many factors will determine performance and wear of the plug.
The plugs are pre-gapped. Iridium IX plugs shouldn't really be re-gapped.
Hmm... can anyone tell me the stock part number of the 2008+ Hatch spark plugs? I'll see if they cross over to an IX plug from that...

Thanks, Paul!
This part number does cross over to the Iridium IX plugs which we stock in heat grade 7 (1 grade cooler). specs: 14mm, 26.5mm reach, 5/8 hex
I'll update the thread above & website now.

I run 7's in my '53 STi (TSL333 tuned) and i can't fault them. Very smooth idle too.

Probably a cooler plug, heat range 8 possibly even a 9.
Are you in the process of building the engine or have you been running the car at 550bhp? If so, the current condition of the plugs will give you a clue.
Too hot means not enough heat transfer to the cylinder head
Too cold means the plug won't burn off carbon deposits efficiently

Are they available? How do I buy?

As it says we're currently out of stock on that part number and it'll be early next week before the next shippment arrives. The iridium upgrades are a good alternative though, plenty of those in stock. Cheaper too
I too am running NGK7s but am due a service so would the Iridiums be like downgrading for me?? Or are they of equal characteristics???...
classic STi6, rebuilt forged engine, 20g turbo, 550cc injectors, Tek 3 remap etc etc (est 350-370bhp)
cheers

NGK Iridium IX are considered an upgrade over most OEM spark plugs. I use them in my STi V8 and favour them to the platinum.
Hi,
Please could you confirm if the 2006 wrx 2.5L Hawkeye plugs are ILFR7H part number?
This is the part number I have been told to use for the uprated heat 7 plug for my 340bhp wrx.
p.s. The link at the top of this post no longer works.
Ta.

I think we just replied to your email enquiry?
ILFR7H = NGK LASER IRIDIUM (OEM brand)
LFR7AIX = NGK IRIDIUM IX (Upgrades)
Link is now fixed, thanks
