Birkett 6 hour endurance: Silverstone 30th Oct
Birkett 6 hour relay: Silverstone 30th October 2010
In association with the Subaru Impreza Drivers Club
On the 30th of October, “Team ScoobyClinic” will enter a six car squad into the famous “Birkett” relay race. This event will take place on the classic GP circuit (Bridge) at Silverstone, and is run over a 6 hour period.
The “Birkett” is an endurance race with a difference, which is made up of teams of between four and six cars.
Only one car from each team is allowed on track at any one time, and they race for a predetermined length of time. At the end of their allotted time, the car pits to “pass the baton” onto the next car, allowing them to take their turn on track.
The “Birkett” runs a handicap system which takes into account the cars in each team and what times they are expected to produce around Silverstone. This allows it to be open to all different types of race car from historic all the way up to the modern day machinery.
For the 2010 60th Anniversary event, the 3.194 mile GP circuit at Silverstone will be used to host the 61 teams that have entered.
Racing gets underway at 11:30am and will run through until 17:30pm, with the last couple of hours run during dusk/nightfall.
The team are backed and prepared by the Chesterfield based specialist “ScoobyClinic”, and they are one of a handful of single make/model teams in the race.
We want to see as many Subaru’s as possible at Silverstone on the 30th October to cheer us all on, so hope to see you there!
The cars will be driven by some of the UK’s top Impreza drivers, who join from their respective race series.
Tim Evans: Euro Saloons/Northern Saloon & Sports Car Championship
Tim started karting in 1985, and drove for the England gearbox kart team in 1998. He raced Caterham’s between 2000 and 2002 with regular podium finishes and was a team driver in the 2001 Birkett relay. He moved to RGB kit cars between 2003 and 2007, and has been racing in saloon cars since 2007, with regular class wins.
Tim also works alongside Andy McKenna, coaching at the “Ice Driver” rally school.
During 2010 Tim has been trying out different race series in preparation for the 2011 season.
Vaughan Fletcher: Nippon Challenge/AAA Saloon Cup
Vaughan started his love of racing with track days in 2002, and moved onto circuit racing at the beginning of 2009.
Although new to circuit racing in 2009, Vaughan has proven to be the one to beat on track, with numerous class and race wins to his name.
This success continued into 2010 with back to back title wins in the Nippon Challenge and class wins in the AAA Saloon Cup, setting consistent lap records and leaving much higher powered machinery behind him.
Ian Froggatt: Nippon Challenge/ AAA Saloon Cup
Ian is new to the world of circuit racing this season, having decided to join in the fun after seeing Vaughan Fletcher compete in the Nippon Challenge last year.
Whilst new to circuit racing Ian has competed in “Lightning Rods” with oval racing in 2000 and 2001.
After his first outing at Mallory Park in April this year, Ian has been steadily improving as the season progresses in both the Nippon Challenge and AAA Saloon Cup. Before the end of the season, Ian has secured 2nd place in class for 2010 in the Nippon Challenge, and placed well in both rounds of the AAA Saloon Cup.
Andy Harvey: Euro Saloons/Time Attack
Andy started his racing career in the early 80’s on two wheels, and ran for nearly two decades on the motocross circuit.
In 2007 Andy moved onto for wheels, taking part in the Time Attack series, and doing so again in 2008 with his Subaru. Throughout 2008, Andy also took part in the Nippon Challenge and the Northern Saloon Car Series.
In 2009 he moved onto the LMA Euro Saloons Championship, and promptly won class A with a clear 100 points lead. In the same year Andy also won the Scooby Sprint series.
In 2010 he has moved back to time Attack and has secured class wins.
Peter Isherwood: Euro Saloons/ Northern Saloon & Sports Car Championship
Peter started racing in 2004 in the RGB race series, and took many class wins over the season.
He drove in the DDMC Saloon and Sport series in 2006, again with many class wins and won “Hepolite’s” most entertaining driver award in 2008. In 2009 he moved onto racing Subaru’s in the LMA championship and took two class wins.
Alongside regular team mate Tim Evans, Peter is also trying out different race series in advance of the 2011 season.
The team will be managed by Mike Smith who has over 40 years experience in all forms of motorsport, both behind the wheel and in team management. From the two wheels of Moto-Cross, to Karts and circuit racing in Catherham’s and Ginetta’s, Mike has seen it all. In 2001 Mike managed a team entry in the 2001 Birkett, and finished second in class, so the team is in good hands.
ScoobyClinic
Having a reputation as one of the UK’s finest independent Subaru specialist’s, means that the team at ScoobyClinic are well placed to back the entry into this unusual race event.
Capable of looking after every aspect of your Subaru ownership, the Chesterfield based organisation can change your light bulb, or prepare/maintain a race winning Impreza as well as anything in between.
With 100,000 sqm of workshop space, housing everything from engine building and their Dyno Dynamics Rolling Roadto the state of the art spray booths, allows the team at “ScoobyClinic” to create your ideal Subaru.

Update:
Due to issue's with one of the entrants, team ScoobyClinic is down to 5 cars. It's hoped that a new driver/car can be recruited in time for next Saturday's race.

A new driver has been recruited into “Team ScoobyClinic” for the “Birkett” 6 hour relay event, taking the numbers back to a full compliment of 6.
Andy McKenna: Professional racing driver and motor sport driving coach
Andy McKenna, is worldly known for operating the “Ice Driver” racing school in Scandinavia, where driving on frozen lakes at high speeds is the norm! When Andy wanted a quick and reliable Subaru to use as a training vehicle on the ice, he of course turned to ScoobyClinic.
Andy will be taking the seat in ScoobyClinics “Pink” car, which has recently been rebuilt following an engine blow up this years TOTB. The car has just won the Time Attack Club Pro 4WD Championship at the final round at Snetterton.

Silverstone 30th October 2010 Birkett 6 hour relay
Team Clinic Secure 1st in Class
Running in a class made up of 22 teams, and from an overall entry of 61 teams, the Impreza’s ran consistently and without fault during the 6 hour race.
Drivers: Tim Evans, Andy Harvey, Pete Isherwood, Ian Froggatt, Vaughan Fletcher and Andy McKenna joined a team of “ScoobyClinic” mechanics at the GP circuit at Silverstone in Northamptonshire to do battle against seasoned endurance racers and prove those that said it couldn’t be done wrong.
Each car took to the track for 20 minute’s at a time before the hand over to the next team mate. Each car was then checked over and refuelled in readiness to race again.
At the end of the 6 hour event, the team had placed 1st in class and 7th overall.
An amazing result and testament to both the drivers and the team at ScoobyClinic.

Hi as promised, the wet lap.

You can tell the tyres go off as Andy's driving style changes to compensate.
cheers
