Default Nurburgring advice please

i've got it in my head i want to go for a few laps round the 'ring' so
trying to get some cash together to join a mate and his M3 clan for a weekend jaunt sometime in August/September

Having never been before though can anyone best advice
1) crossing the pond (ferry - which one, train, swim ?)
2) plentiful supply of shell optimax or other
3) places to go drink and be merry while at the ring (2 or 3 nights)
4) places to kip (2 or 3 nights)
5) ticket/days/laps to drive the ring

Is anyone else going around this time aswell

thank you

Hi matey

1) Speedferries is a good web-site for crossings as is Ferrysavers.com Dover to Calais, Dunkerque, Bologne all ok, generally pay around £70. Tunnel is about £120
2) You dont need Optimax the Euro fuel is as good or higher octane generally.
3)Pistenklause is the place to go in Nurburb. Beer is good and steak on the stone is excellent
4) Tickets bought from the Kiosk at the ring, buy them in 5's or higher numbers, or a season tickets. Works out about £10 per lap.

Come and we join us at www.northloop.co.uk we are a forum dedicated to the Nurburgring and will answer any questions you have plus loads of friendly chat. We also have a aplanned trip section so you willl know which friendly faces will be there the same time as you.

Why am I up this early in the morning? Because i'm on my way to a certain track in Germany for a few days

Default Ring

I once did a 7:52 in my Suby WRX running on Optimax and had a K&N filter. Beat that M8.

Brilliant place to stay, less than 10mins from the ring - very friendly - lady is English, great food too. Was 65Euros for two people and that included breakfast - you can also hire one of their garages for your motor for a small bit extra!

I beg to differ (slightly), Gary. The 98RON you get on the mainland isn't quite as good as Optimax (confirmed by Deltadash on my 02 STi) but is almost as good as. For a turbo car on the track, I'd not rely on it, so would either take some octane booster, or fill up with 100RON that you can get, aparently at the Aral in Adenau or the Aral in Barweiler. I'd take some octane booster regardless in case you can't get the 100RON. Obviously, this will depend on what state of tune your car is in, which model it is, and what fuel it's mapped for. I'd recommend, and did myself with the STi, run the booster even if not needed, for extra (engine) safety!

Just all IMHO,

Ta,

Matt

As you said Matt it depends on the car and the state of tune. Newage cars don't NEED optimax, although some say it makes them run better. The fuel in and around the ring is at least as good as UK super-unleaded.

i'm going Aug 17th for a week with Lancer-evo.net, its £150 deposit which pays for the accom for the week and a transporter for nights out on town. If your interested log on to www.lancer-evo.net and send a message to EVOMATT who has all the info, been before with this group and being the only scoob with Evo's was still a good time, mix of different cars go with them too, so drop them a line if your interested. See you at the ring!
