ME!
Don't think I should be one to give out tips though.
I normally just go and have fun, stay out of other peoples way, let the faster cars go by, and drive at my own pace.
This will be my first outing in the Scooby. So, I think I'll be falling back or finding a bit of clear track for myself, to see how the car handles when pushed a bit.

Yes I'm going,
Any undamaged BS Crashhat is OK but they do have some there for hire IIRC
Track insurance, SIDC are trying to get some sorted with Eggar Lawsons( Competive Car Insurance) IIRC
The Track is considered to be quite safe with only Two Bends with 'Armco' barriers all other places have large grassy run off areas with nothing to hit. IIRC
Tips Go out as a passenger first, gradually build up speed, give you and your car breaks both can get tired quick make sure you drink, keep checking water/oil/fuel/tyres/Pads, Don't leave handbrake on or foot on brake whilst parked and hot, If you have a Classic try not to run under 1/4 of a Tank or can get fuel starvation on tight R/H bends and possibly fry your engine.
If you have a fast car following behind you in a corner don't panic, your car may out accellerate his out of corner and then he is unable unable to get past before next corner and you'll slow him up again, indicate to right and ease off throttle slighty till hes got past this will hardly spoil your lap but if you keep holding him up will really spoil his. Most circuits only allow overtaking on left,no overtaking in braking zone or around corners but that will be explained at briefing IMHO
Following Cars can show you the right lines but be careful not to be drawn into a corner at too fast though or if they have made an Error you'll do the same.
If you don't know, ask there will be better peeps there more than happy to help.
Best advice is Enjoy the day and remember take it easy, you drove the car there, you'll want to Drive it home
Be carefull on the way home the 'Adrienaline' of the day get acustomed to 'Normal driving'
Tony
IMHO AFAIRC Flame suit ready

Thanks for that tony, the track rules sound very similar to when i did a single seater day at thruxton. (So not totally a track virgin, just in my own car!) Who would be the best person to speak to about the insurance, had a look on the SIDC forums earlier on today but there was no mention of them organising any sort of insurance group buy. Would be very interested if they are cos my dad might want to have a go as well. Might see you all there if work does not **** it all up.

Danny,
Please don't get me wrong, Im no Track expert but have done some trackdays. Competitive Car Insurance(Egger Lawson) I have used them 4-5 times now Speak to Gorgina or Chris, either Email to mail@eggerlawson.co.uk. or Phone 0115 9415255
It can be expensive for "One off's" so I think John Baldock of SIDC was contacting them, as they do special rates for clubs/events, so just mention that. or Email Johnb@sidc.co.uk first
Also take some PVC tape for for covering up headlamps and rear llights, possibly a set of numberplates with you username on instead of you real Reg No
Tony
Edited to enter Phone No.

Be aware of the Bedford noise restrictions. I was black flagged in my Spec C which ran at 91db on track which was 4db over the track noice limit. It breezed the static noice test, but scoobys seem to have an exhaust tone which triggers the noise monitors. I am having to change from a 3" pipe to a 5" pipe which will apparently deepen the note and make it less noisy.
You do not get your money back, so don't be like me and get stung for the cost of the day and frustrated watching other petrol heads have fun. As I hadn't modified the car I didn't think noise would be an issue...

It's only got a scoobysports backbox on at the moment, still got both cats so i'd be very surprised to see it fail the noise test.
Would be very interested to see how they take the measurements with what sort of meter, at what weighting dBA or dBC? I am a sound man so reguarly come across the council idiots who don't know their ar** from their elbow! B17ADP u will be out of luck if they measure in dBC as that takes into account all frequencies below 100Hz unlike dBA, so deepening the exhaust note more will only reult in a rise in dB levels! All these noise restirctions are so weather dependant and IMHO there are so many whingers out there however quiet you make it, somebody will always moan.

Booked up to take the STi8 out for the first time Bedford may not be the most exciting of tracks but it's a good one to learn and have fun with the car as plenty of run-off areas
Phoned up my insurers (LV) who said track days were covered in the policy provided I wasn't partaking in organised racing, time trials, pace-setting, etc., which is good as Greenlight used to charge £60 for the priveledge of taking the Scoob on track!
Anyone know if the instructors will be present?

The instructors are always at Bedford. And it's a good idea to book one - only approx £25 for 1/2 hour. They get you going round the track faster or more sideways depending on your preferance!

I'll be there, fresh from my 2004 'warm up' at Brands with Evo magazine. I take it we can book instructors on the day as the SIDC shop didn't have them as an option when I last looked.

Are there any more members tickets available?
There are only non members ones left on the SIDC shop website.
Now i have finally found out from work that i can have the day off all the discounted ones seem to have gone!
Am i mow going to have to pay full price or are there some more discounted ones cunningly hidden away for just such an eventuality?
Dan.

Met,
It would be advisable They will be quite hot on noise limits. It is very possible to pass the Static Test yet Fail out on the track in which case you will be black flagged There are 'Garage spaces' in pitlane to work on your car in the dry and store spare wheel, exhausts Etc.
