I was thinking of getting a lap timer, but have heard that track day companies will throw you out if you use one (for insurance reasons).

What really happens? Do they generally turn a blind eye to people who put beacons out?

I'm sure this is the case. The event would need a Motorsport licence to run timed events, with everyone needing to have a race licence, cars with roll cages, scrutineering etc, as well as the insurance issues.

The biggest worry is that people who time laps will push their cars to the absolute limit on almost every lap, and have less consideration for other track users who are just doing it for fun.

Generally, they will confiscate your beacon and throw you out.

If you want to know your times you can always video it and time it later. However, if you're testing, then go on a testing day not a track day.

Don't know if it's different for bikes , as I 've never been on a bike track day, but I've done lots of car trackdays and it is a problem, which is why I posted the above.......

Some circuits/ track companies will actually search your car to see if you have any timing equipment on board
