Default 19mm Hell

Bottom nuts on my rear shocks are NOT budging.

Had soaked in WD40 since about 4 hours ago, going to Halfords now to try and find some "better" penetrating fluid... but I think I'm clutching at straws hoping a fluid will help me out.

Any suggestions? Got a torque wrench with a ~2 foot handle and isn't enough to get leverage on it. Can't get anything bigger than a box wrench in on the nut side to get any movement there either.

Heat them up, that may be the only way to release them.

Worst case, buy new bolts and grind the old nuts off and tap the rest of the bolt out with a hammer and dift, job done in 5 minutes. Hope this helps.

This ^^

If you can get an angle grinder on them try and "slice" the nut - cutting a "corner" off it along the length of the nut - you can normally unscrew it then and then whack the bolt out - replace with new bolts and nuts.

are you sure your turning them the right way?
use a T par with the handle off say the trolley jack slid over it(to make the T bar longer)
Then use the trolley jack to undo the Bolt, the weight of the car is normally enough.

Thanks guys. I did consider cutting the nut, but ended up going to Halfords (5mins after writing this thread) and got some of their 3 in 1 penetrating spray. I was skeptical, but I was wrong to be - it seemed to do the trick lovely.

Cheers guys. I definitely need to invest in some kind of mini blowtorch type thing.

WD40 isn't a penetrating oil, it's a lubricant, despite its public perception. I would have said Plus Gas, or Bilt Hamber's 'Electrox', but clearly Halford's own is good too.

I'm really pleased to hear you got it sorted, as those nuts in particular can be a right b'stard.

Glad you got it sorted there.

I have an OCD routine with any blob of rust that was once a nut.

Wire brush it and Plusgas the night before. Plusgas it an hour before. Gentle tap on the side with a hammer for luck... I don't think this does anything but it's OCD. Then a sharp 10 degree tighten.

Or an impact gun if you're feeling A-Team
