Just got my new wheels ( OZ Super leggera 215/40/17) and now she needs lowering. Was at tweeks last week who told me i should have bought 205s cos 215s are the wrong size for a scoob! Then the tit told me because ive fitted 17s then i cant lower the car at all unless i didnt mind tyres rubbing. I know from personal experience that some of the guys at tweeks are a little dim but is this true or what? I was thinking of eibach springs, how low are these, 40mm? and also will the shocks bottom out.
Cheers Ad.

215/40 is the correct size for 17's or you can use 205/45 17 both have a simalar rolling radius to the originals.

As for lowering it depends on the wheel offset, but if you are running on Subaru 17" wheels rubbing shouldn't be a problem.

I'm running Eibach springs on a MY97 with 215/40 17 wit no problems Eibach's are meant to lower 25-30mm. Mine sits a bit lower but it's hard to tell exactly how much lower but it's not as far as 30mm

To bottom out the struts you would have to go much lower than this. (Flame suit on)
Iain.
PS.I don't claim to be a expert, but this is what I have found from speaking with other owners/tuners and through personal experience.

What are the offset of your wheels? This will dictate whether you need to get your rear arches rolled, along with how low you want to go and what size tyres you fit.

I recently had mine rolled because I changed wheels from a ET52 to ET45 offset and am about replace my Eibach's with fully adjustable kit.

For info. - ET45's with Eibachs and adjustable Koni's are no problem...even running 17" 225's This is on a Euro wagon.
