Default Symptons of a knocking Shock (STi 2007) - Or something else

Since owning the car (had for 15 months now), on occassion you get the sensation that something has dropped at the rear as you coast at very slow speed or just as you pull away.

It is occasionaly accompanied with a click, and can be the left or right rear.

The sensation is similar to, but not as dramatic as, when you release the handbrake on a hill start and the back of the car drops slightly.

It has done this on the OE springs, Prodrive spings and now also on Tein springs.

I don't appear to have any knocking noises in general from the rear and I also live on a bumpy un-adopted road, so any knocking would be quite apparent at slow speeds.

Is the shock getting slightly stuck in a set position i.e under braking the back of the car lifts slightly, then because it's not under any real load when coastin in traffice it will noticably click/drop back to the right position ????

Not something I ever experienced in 10 years of owning classic's !!!!

Thanks, but after seeing many threads on BC's knocking I will be giving them a very wide berth......
Quite happy with OE shocks and Tein springs, unless some AST turn up.

There is a thread on here about this problem with standard shocks knocking. And how it was fixed.

Yeh thanks, saw that a while back and may well do that.
Just trying to establish if what I have is the dreaded knock problem as I don't appear to have any knocking noises, just the sensation at v.slow speed that the rear suspension is dropping slightly.

That's how my rear shocks were before I changed them. Pulling up at junctions etc the rear would clunk and drop. As you described, like the handbrake.
